They can be ridiculous. Even if you just want something small. I'm not really wanting to ever get married, I don't see the point.

But I noticed someone said the rings are expensive, and to just buy a pretty one. I agree some are expensive but I have had a friend who unfortunately went the route of a cheaper ring and it didn't even last a year before it was scratched and bent out of shape. They ended up getting a more expensive ring with better quality materials and it still looks the same as it did when they first got it.

My wife and I did an outdoor ceremony and with rings and everything else we spent right around $1000 which I think we did pretty good for having a dj and renting out space, plus food and drinks.

Weddings are a waste of money. Including the damn rings. Just buy a pretty ring and have a nice party in some nice clothes. No need for a ring that screams "this money could've been a down payment on a house, now it's nothing more than a pretty rock" or a dress that is worn once but could've been a damn car in price.

Not only do I believe weddings and marriages are a scam, I believe they are a sham invented by third parties, so they have a way to make a profit by inventing nothing new but something abstract. Boy, women sure do think of getting married like it's for men having sex.

You get what you pay for.

I've worked in the wedding industry as a videographer, so I will speak from our perspective.

Yes, you can get Cousin Joe to video it from his iPhone... and it will look like Cousin Joe shot it from his iPhone. But this is a once (or two or three) in a life time event, there are no redos, no second takes, it must be done RIGHT the first time.

So what do you get? Years of experience and education... I've had people complain about me being a little cold on their special day, I explain to them it's how I keep my head about me in the chaos, but the reality is that its the 3rd one I've done this month, I know exactly what is needed, you are not going to be part of me figuring it our.

You get professional equipment. Thousands of dollars spent will guarantee a clean, in focus, level, fluid, stabile shot that won't feature my feet when I realize the bride is coming.

A second, and sometimes third, shooter. This guarantees that if any issues did pop up they could be corrected later. Also it will produce a cleaner final product.

Professional editing... Cousin Joe has a single angle and a single shot, it can't really be edited. This is fine for documentation, like for when you have to record someone's statement for the court, but this is something you want to be glamorous enough to show your monster in law.

In short you are paying professional prices for professional products

no i disagree. rent a room, get some decoration, get someone to play music on spotify and order some food. it's not that crazy expensive. nobody is forcing you to hire a wedding planner that goes to then decide for you to buy all that expensive wedding industry bullshit for you. like if you invite who's important to each of you, it should be less than 10k.

Nobody is forcing you to have an expensive wedding. It can be done in a very simple manner. It's just the peer pressure and the misconception that a great flashy wedding makes up a happy marriage.

I cannot believe how much some people spend on a wedding. I went to a wedding a year ago that must have cost 50K. It was a 3 day extravaganza.

I think many people spend the equivalent of a house downpayment on a wedding when they do not outright own a house, and that seems foolish to me.

I would buy a nice white tea length wedding dress and get married at the courthouse. Then have a dinner with close family and friends. Thinking about planning for a big wedding stresses me out.
