My best guy friend that I've known for decades since we were in school (I use a fake age on here) is in an unhappy marriage and he always tells me he wishes he could be in a happy marriage like mine and my husband's. He always talks about hating his life and being depressed.

His wife is abusive and embarrasses him in public all the time. She lies to him and manipulates him and stole thousands of dollars of his money to go on a holiday with her girlfriends for a month recently. If he tries to talk about it with her she starts yelling and crying and telling him he's the bad person.

He's a great guy and I know if he got himself out of this situation he'd easily find someone new and be happy. Tips to break them up since he's unmotivated to initiate the divorce?

Sadly he is the one that has to make this decision, and he needs to grow a pair of balls and put his foot down to this selfish bitch of his, that clearly only cares about herself. I went through the same shit with my ex wife , that completely changed on me in front of my eyes , she started criticizing me , belittling me , mocking me and embarrassing me in front of other people , and then all of a sudden she started choosing her friends over me and planning trips and vacations without me , At that moment I knew my marriage was over , because my wife and I use to be inseparable for a lot of years, until her sorry selfish ass got addicted to social media and she started comparing our lives to other peoples’ lives , No matter what I did for her , it was no longer ever good enough , because she became a very selfish person that only cared about herself. Tell your friend to not tolerate her bullshit and to put his foot down to her. If she wants to act single , tell him to go act single as well. Tell him to give her a taste of her own medicine and to stop giving into her , Tell him the ball is now in his court and that he should start preparing for a divorce , I know the pain he is going through trust me , cuz I went through the same shit. The only thing that kept me sane , was focusing on myself and my kids and acting single
As well , tell him he has every right to open up to another girl , because his wife is already cheating on the relationship by her being selfish. Tell him to no longer sleep in the same bed as her and to distance himself from her as much as possible , tell him to start hanging out with his friends more and prioritizing his friends over her. If he ends up having sex with another girl , oh well , she dug her own grave by treating him this way. Tell him to plan trips without her included. She wants to go be a whore with her girlfriends’ then he can go be a whore with his friends’ as well. Okay, so at first it sounded as if You wanted to be a homebreaker, but if You have a husband, I believe this understanting to be wrong. The bad news is there is no legal way way for Him to cut her off, even if she's abusive. Even if they have no children, she herself will be allowed alimony after a divorce, her abusive and cruel behaviour downplayed or outright ignored. He had an awful lot of money spent on His attorneys, and even then He might not get saved if not for His ex-girlfriends' testimonies, and then again the Amber Heard-class life destroyer in question has not even received an adequate shelling. The only way Your Childhood Friend could be truly free is if she died, but then again it would have to be an accident He would have no involvement with, otherwise He'd be charged with murder and sent to jail. This kind of accident is terribly unlikely to happen, unless someone not related to him helps His luck. The easiest way would be to put her in the way of some thugs late at night in a place where there is no CCTV, but then again, are there any CCTV-free spots these days? And then again, they would be unlikely to actually kill her unless requested to, and such a request would have to be placed anonymously. All in all, it looks like He's doomed.

How old is he? Roughly as you sort of disclose your fake age in that. The reason I ask is I am asking how much does he have to lose as that impacts what he does. A divorce in the early 20's is not that bad.

Stealing money to go on holidays with her girlfriends is beyond the pale. It was probably a dirty girls trip away since from your description she would have done what she felt like at the time.

I think shining a light on his situation is the best thing you can do.

Very difficult to judge a marriage from the outside and I'll advised to interfere. If she's as bad as you think, he's the one that needs to deal with it. For all her faults, he may get something out of it that keeps him committed. And failing all else, he's the one that needs to deal with his exit. It's a risky venture to assume you know what's right and to encourage him.
