Why do people still get married knowing its pointless?

It really is shwing my commitment to my wife and is a choice I'm making to love and honour her and our relationship. that makes it important.

Security is important to some people, especially as get older.

how is it wasting time? I was single for 40+ years. I have more balanced and less stress life married.
It's freed me up to where I think more about what I can do for others, that's not a waste of time.

Ask yourself why your view of marriage is so negative. If it's because others failed at it... and 50% do... then ok. But consider how much training people have. Very little. So no wonder.

100% right on wedding. we spent $ for the piece of paper and some rings. Rings are reminders to me and flags to others... I'm taken. That's why I wear it.
Time? Takes short time to fill out form and have official do ceremony. I know multiple people that did it that way. I would not waste $20-$50,000 on a wedding.
I have more time because we are team. If have partner and live in separate houses... cost of everything doubles... what a waste. Put together, I don't have to work so hard and now have free time. We plan together vacations, tag team cooking/cleaning, problem solving. It's so much easier. Before, I did everything myself... was dooable as a young person but lm tell you have life feels over 40... lol:) pain, don't recover like used to. You'll find out.
You aren't immortal.
Two are better than one.

The one tradeoff is freedom. If you want full control of your decisions and whims.. then stay single. Some compromise is required.

that's hard to do, but possible. like military, sales, truck drivers. some people can do that. but if you ahve to have space, can't work with another... then yea, stay single.

Because many people are narcissistic enough to believe that what they do is somehow special and different and they will not have the same bad outcome that most other people have. This is especially true for many men. Then they find out the truth and they don't feel so good about it.

It's not always pointless like there are certain situations where it's better to be married like for me I never wanted marriage but because of my husband's being in the military it's a lot easier to be married

Legal/tax reasons. And for military there lots of benefits to being married like higher pay, kids/wife get health insurance, basically free housing, being able to move with spouse to different locations, live on base, life insurance, I'm able to care of things in my husband's name while he's deployed car/house/taxes etc. Cheaper/free college. There's probably a lot of other benefits I'm missing but those are some of the bigger ones

That's just how it works. a lot of soldiers will go randomly marrying strippers just for the benefits 😆

Obviously for me and my husband we were already together and had a child before he joined the military so it made sense to get married

It not always pointless, there are a lot people are happy with their marriage. I know your parents got you bad experience and bad for example. But believe me, not every couple just like your parents.
