It's a legal agreement that has advantages and disadvantages. It makes it more difficult to end the relationship so it can make people feel that their partner is committed.

But as I have learned, there are never any guarantees even if you are married. People still can up and leave you, and some do.
Just make as sure as possible to choose someone it will last with. Because divorce is so expensive these days!!

Not only expensive, but also very demanding if children are involved. You don't want to put them through such a stressful situation.

This is so true.
My parents divorced when I was 5 years old. I didn't grow up with my father. He never paid child support for me and he had no idea about what I had to do because he wasn't in my life and didn't care about me.
When I was 16, I had to get a job AND finish high school because I needed money for my clothes and food.
We suffered because of that man! 😔

That's sad. Sorry to hear you had to go through all that at such a young age, just when you need the full support of your father and mother.

That's why it's so important to have children with someone who you can trust to raise children with. I always say that there are no guarantees, but if you can get as close as you can to choosing the right person to make children with, then you did you best. We aren't responsible for what other people's behavior or their life choices.
Most of us want the best for our children and some have children and turn their backs on them.

Hard to answer given my age. If I had to say yes or no, I would say yes, I would marry the person I have been with for the past 1.5 years.

The issue is that we are both going for degrees that require a lot of schooling. So it is not practical to even think about right now.

I see. Give it a few years. I'd say you won't even think of that possibility until you've been together for 3 or 4 years. That might coincide with the time you both get your degrees and start working.

Anyway, 1.5 years is an important milestone. I'm sure you're convinced he's the one for you.

Indeed. That timeframe would be logical to start to think about it. I would have a few years left after my bachelor's degree and he would have slightly more.

I think at that point, if we are still together, we will have discussed that. I don't see any reason that we would not still be together. I have not a single thing that I can say I would change about him. Given how young we are, that is an impressive thing that I can admit.

Put it this way, if we were at 95% before we were married, we blew way past the 100% mark once we tied the knot, and that hasn't stopped over 15 years later.

However, we are perfect for each other. Some people don't have that chemistry. It also doesn't help that some people are simply not marriage-worthy. Many are barely even relationship-worthy!

I think what is most important is how a couple measure their relationship, the quality they give into it. There are those married who have shitty relationship and those who don't who has the opposite, you never know. What one see as a symbol for what quality, dedication another don't so always important to keep that in mind and not go after what you maybe or society maybe judge the relationship quality by a symbol. A symbol is really nothing without the true quality to back it up.
