Why don't men want to get married?

For some reason, most men prefer adultery. Why?

I can only speak for myself.
I had girlfriends from the time I was 16. They were really pretty and super good people.
I engaged in infatuated, monogamous, long-term relationships with them but didn't want to get married at a young age and had no interest in caring for children. Plus, I wanted to be free to travel, party, and do what I wanted when I wanted.

I don't consider premarital sex to be adultery. I think it is just part of growing up, gaining life experience and wisdom. Besides, sex is an experience that shouldn't be missed out on and that you can't get enough of.

It wasn't until my early 30s that I started thinking about finding a partner for life, settling down, and beginning a new chapter. By then, I had a good job and enough assets to support a wife. And, by then, I had experienced enough fun and adventure to be satisfied.
I had experienced relationships and enough sex to know I could be satisfied with one woman for the rest of my life. I wouldn't have been sure of that if I had gotten married young to my first girlfriend. I am grateful for all my experiences.

I always took marriage very seriously. I figured it was forever, so I treated it like the most important decision I would ever make.

I finally met a woman that I was sure I would be happy to live with for the rest of my life. She shared my values and I knew she would stick with me through thick and thin.
I married her when I was 42. She was 39. We have been happily married now for 30 years, had LOTS of fun, and built a wonderful life together as lovers, best friends and equal partners.

Every young boy dreamed about being married, being a husband and a father and so on.


Then in his teen years he fell for some girl.
Maybe a classmate, maybe even a teacher, or a friend from the neighborhood, etc…


And when his heart was crushed by either a rejection or watching her go off with someone else, he swore to protect whatever heart he had left and never feel this pain again.


So he becomes an adult always looking for a sexual fix instead of anything meaningful, just drifting through life wondering why he can’t feel any real happiness.


In some rare cases the young boy does end up dating his crush and they get married young.
So even then you wouldn’t run into these guys because they’re already sorted out.

Adulterer is used for both a single man who has sex with a married woman, or any married person who has sex outside of their marriage.

So, I don't think that's a factual statement, Melanie. What you're saying is most single men prefer having sex with married women AND the majority of married men ARE adulterers. Statistically, that's not close to being true.

As to why marriage is on the downswing for men, if they don't want a family, what's the point? In this day and age of dating, and the economy, they feel like " The juice isn't worth the squeeze"; too much down side, far too little up side.

Generally spoken, I don't think it is true that men don't want to get married anymore. My wife and I lived together during 2 years before deciding to get married, which lasted 36 more years till my wife passed away.

At the age I have now, 72, there is no reason to marry again, although I'd appreciate having an intimate girlfriend. The idea is not creating a family anymore, but sharing nice moments.

The standard marriage contract is an extremely bad deal for men. In what other area of commercial does one party get to break the deal and gets financially rewarded for it?

Undoubtedly more gets demanded from men than ever before. At the same time, men get less benefits out of the deal than ever before.

It is a simple cost/benefit assessment to decide to never sign on the dotted line.

Men don't prefer adultery (sex outside an existing marriage) But, technically, fornication, when people have sex outside of any marriage. Young love tends to have a lot of that along with casual, recreational sex.
