Is it reasonable to spend $400 on flights just for wedding dress shopping?

I live in texas and my family lives in IL. The wedding is in IL, and everyone in the weeding in in IL. I need to go wedding dress shopping. My mom said that I need to go shopping in IL if I want her and some other family members to go with. Flights are about $400 to fly in on a wednsday and leave early Saturday. TBH i dont want to spent about $400 just to go for that short of a trip, this wedding is already going to be expensive and I am trying to save for it. Is that price reasonable?

If you had money to spend like that then sure, but since you’re already trying to save, and if your mom is even remotely aware of your financial situation then I think it’s inconsiderate on her behalf. Your family, especially your parents, should be doing what they can to help make the wedding as stress-free for you as possible. They should offer to at least pitch in on the ticket if they’d like to be part of the dress shopping. If not then I’d really be considering some sort of video call they can be on instead. I’m not paying $400 I don’t really have or would feel the financial burden of no longer having.

Depends on if you really want them there when you do the wedding dress shopping. Would you rather not have them there and save $400 or would you rather spend $400 to have them with you when you shop (and see them for 5 days)? There’s no righr or wrong it’s about what you prioritize. If you don’t fly out then maybe they can join on video call. It’s not the same but whatever.
