Why do I feel guilty about buying myself something expensive?

Don’t feel bad I bought an Apple Watch SE a laptop and a entire game room with a 70” inch Vizio TV, LED lights, Xbox Series X, Futon, and Bean Bags did I need it? No, but do I have siblings who are bored at home when I go off to my university due to my parents working so much to get them what they need so I took some money out of my savings and spent on a game room for them and to get my self a new faster laptop and upgrade my Apple Watch series 3 to an SE I don’t feel guilty because I know I was going to do all of that eventually and rather than argue with myself I went ahead and did it. So far I enjoy my Apple Watch SE and new laptop here at college and I got a few pictures showing that my family enjoyed the game room while I’m away, to this day they are still taking full advantage of that game room.
I think it's strange because I had to do a strange sort of shopping spree myself recently 😅 but it's tough because you want to be responsible. The challenge is controling impusive behavior and it's something I've been struggling with. But if you have a budget every month and keep to it, you need and should have times of rewarding yourself. But you feel guilty because it's you trying to be careful with your spending. I think you should come up with a budget system either monthly, 6 months or every year where you have money to spend on things like fun clothes comfortably. Life is too short and you need to have the ability to reward yourself for simply making it through life.
Why guilty $300 for laptop is cheap. I spent $1000+ on my pc but yeah I’m a gamer so.. I mean it’s not a waste if you truly needed it, ex you don’t have one or is not working well, otherwise I’d feel guilty too lol but yeah you know you have 14 days time to return the item (preferred sooner than better) in case you feel bad about it lol. The item just needs to be like new, no issues, no damage. Thats what I did with keyboard I ordered and didn’t end up liking. I just sent it back and they gave me the money back.
Oh girl , It happens to me lol 😂 When I shop at Pink for bras I feel guilty and can't stop thinking asking myself Why did I had to buy that expensive bra. The next morning I go back to Pink to return that bra go to Walmart get my self less expensive bras I end up feeling much better lol.

It is called buyer's remorse. I have it too. I rarely and I mean very rarely ever buy anything for myself that isn't needed to survive. When I do even tho I have more than enough money to buy it and all my bills are paid I still have this really guilty feeling after I buy it. But it goes away. Honestly, it didn't really have to be really expensive just if it gives me any type of pleasure. My ex had a huge issue with me never buying things for myself. She believed that I deserved to get myself something nice but that damn buyer's remorse kept getting in the way.
Isabel I trust that you know how to handle your finances and that you best know what you need and what is a sensible purchase. So out of your poll choices I would think it's probably conditioning that makes you feel guilty.
Having said all that, there are occasions when even a not-absolutely-necessary purchase is legitimate simply because you want to do something for yourself. And there's nothing wrong with that as long as you're not spending your rent or grocery money.
So I just really hope you get a lot of good use out of your new laptop and that you enjoy it.
🙋♂️😊
you deserve it love, you deserve to treat yourself. if that means getting yourself a damn laptop, good for you. don't feel guilty about it. and also, you might feel guilty cause you aren't use to spending much on you or people around you have just made you conditioned to feel like that. ♡
$300 on a laptop? That’s like £200. That’s pretty cheap for a laptop. I’d be feeling good about such a bargain. I spend at least £700 or $1000 USD on a laptop. I feel like the more you spend on tech, the better the quality. I’d rather save and invest in something good.
There is no need to feel bad unless spending on unnecessary things. If something is necessary then it has to be bought.
You feel guilty because a male blow up doll with real pubic hair wasn't a necessary purchase 🤔
You where conditioned to feel that way.
That or you know you couldn't afford it - which then is a bigger problem.
When I buy something expensive I usually feel bad if it's something I fear will have a flaw and can't be fixed, so I am doubtful of quality - even if most people review the product as great, if 1 person says something bad it plants a seed of doubt that I can't shake.
Maybe that is something that resonates with you as well? Depending on what you bought.
I think it's buyers remorse.
I'd probably get the same TBH, especially if I made an expensive purchase.
I think a Laptop is probably worth it TBH, assuming you get a lot of use out of it.
No I don’t do it all the time it’s not like I wrack you credit call bills but every know and then I give myself a gift. I think it’s important if it makes you feel good. Especially for moms I see them spoil their kids And never spoil themselves.
If it's not an essential purchase, there is generally a tendency to have remorse afterwards. $300.00 for a laptop doesn't sound like a lot. If you truly needed it to be more productive, don't feel guilty.
Never if i spend a huge amount I've wanted that thing like really wanted it and need it. Even if I'm going to throw it to gather dust later on i gave a gift to myself because i deserve it. That's what i tell myself and move on.
I just bought a brand new truck (well , it was a year and a half ago but it has less than 5000 miles on it) and I still feel guilty even though I needed a new truck and I bought it at the end of the year and got a really good deal on it.
Okay so now you have me curious what did you buy I'm the same way I never buy myself anything and here pretty soon I think I'm just going to have to I call it an attitude adjustment
Don't feel bad. Buying a laptop is a practical option so the expense should be worthwhile. As it can give you long term benefit.
Whether or not you should feel guilty depends on what the item is and how often you will be using it.
I think because you like to save and that’s ok! Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to spend that much depending upon of course. I’ve felt guilty for buying shoes at $180
The real question is if you could afford it. If it's in your budget, and it won't cause stress with other bills, then I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes we have to splurge on ourselves.
Maybe you didn't budget it in and feel like you needed the money for something else.
Awww, I do the same thing sometimes when we need things we buy them, sure I feel guilt but sometimes I'm glad I did it?
Because there arw people right now that can't afford groceries. And can't afford to pay rent on rhe edge of being homeless?
Don't feel guilty about it. You worked hard for it you deserve it.
