A medium number of medium gifts! I really never look at things that are dirt cheap or really fancy.

The action should be in the focus. Not the money you spend for it. Would be hard for me to find a present if I know they "expect" a big present or a lot of smaller ones.

I give because I want to and not because someone expects it. I only make presents if I want to.
