Professional lighting designer here. They all have their place. I prefer lamps, either floor or table for living spaces, and overhead lighting for workspaces like kitchens, for example. It's all about context and what you need out of the light.
Lava Lamp
I remember seeing my first lava lamp in 1968.
It was like meeting God.
Desk lamp, cute like one you showed here. I love to work in night (writing work) with dim lights and cute stationaries. Unfortunately I have never been able to do that yet.
This was hard. But only the ceiling lamp is in use.

Wall lamps are nice however I prefer table lamps.
desk lamps... good memories
also, the less annoying ones as they will only focus on the desk area
Table lamp
Table lamp. I’ve actually been thinking about designing and 3D printing my own table lamp bases. I wanna do them in the Mid-century Modern/Atomic styles from the 1950s-1960s.
I prefer a mix of spot lamps embedded in the ceiling, accented by table lamps.
I don't like lamps at all. I think they are the dumbest thing ever invented. Ceiling lights only for me!!
A table lamp you can change colors on an dim
Ceiling lamp. I think that is the one that shines out the most.
Ceiling lamp, but not when I am doing something else, then maybe I need a desk or table lamp.
Depends on the use. Table lamps for bedroom. Ceiling lamp for most rooms. And other kind for other uses. Where there is not enough light for tasks.
Thanks for like!
Wall ones are my least favorite
