I want it for when I go walking so I don't have to use my phone.

I was going to tell you to get a Sony MP3 Walkman, but it looks like they may have been discontinued. I have one of these, and I have my entire music collection on it using a 512 GB micro-SD card on it. I mostly use it as an emergency backup in case my primary DJ equipment ever dies, or in case I need a secondary source for music, as I sometimes do when I DJ weddings and I need a setup for the ceremony and the main setup for the reception at a different location.
The reason I recommend this one is because it uses micro-SD cards for storage, and you can drag-and-drop files to the card easily. It's got a 3.5mm headphone jack, and it's got BlueTooth, so you can use BT headphones or speakers or connect it to a car's BT.
If you can't track down a used one at a decent price ($200 or less), then I recommend you find a smartphone with a quality audio output (an older LG V-series phone, like the V30, would be excellent) and use that. Before you start, do a factory reset, create a new Google account that you never use for anything else, don't install email or social media apps or anything else with notifications, and disable the screen lock. That will give you a high quality MP3 (or FLAC, or whatever) player. They also support micro-SD cards, though it's a bit more work getting them in and out, and if you are copying a lot of files, you'll want to remove the card to do so. Still, a V30 makes an outstanding MP3 player, and since they are now obsolete due to the 5G rollout, you should be able to get a used one cheap.
yes, SanDisk micro players are a good option... cheaper as well, and reliable
I’ve been using my iPod since around 2010 so I do not know much about MP3’s. They are very hard to find but buying one is totally worth it. I’ve had mine over 13 years and it still works like it’s brand new.
