Have you ever given something handmade to someone as a gift? Maybe you did when you get for parents when you were young.
If you have, what was it?

I have, plenty of times- to my mom and a bit of my dad, when I was a kid.
Arts/crafts/ love tokens.
Sometimes I would just give my toys or any items I had lol.. I’d be giving all my gifts away, until one figured out and said:
“NO (with a lighthearted laugh), you keep it!”
Just recently, I messed up my card count for Valentine’s Day, and left a birthday envelope to one of the birthday cards AT the store.
It left me at a compromise, and I simply used one of the top cases of the chocolate hearts ♥️ I had received.
(it was perfectly heart shaped with a cute saying on it); on the other side I put a sticky note- a thoughtful and heartfelt message, with best wishes. I took some glitter and adorned it. I say adorned but it was more like glitterbombed/ glitter puked 🤮 lol
and handed that as my “valentine,” with the candies I had given to my sister.
I don’t think she threw it away, so that may be a good sign 🪧👀😂
I know she liked the candy.
I am good with the crafts but horrible with drawing. I wish I could draw even just decent. Thanks for sharing!
Well - I'm not sure this is what you had in mind but I teach kindergarten and at Christmas the kids and I make keepsake ornaments for them to give their families. I buy plastic globe shaped ornaments in assorted colors (plastic because the glass could easily break on their way home), I Paint each kids hand white and make a handprint on their ornament - so they can remember how little their hand was that year. When the handprint dries, I let them use my sharpie markers to decorate each finger like a snowman - hat, eyes, carrot nose, scarf. When we're ready to send them home each kid gets to decorate a plain gift bag and write a little note to their family. They turn out super cute and I do them every year.
Yes, that is exactly the sort of stuff I had in mind. What a cute craft to do with the kids! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Recently, yes.
A calligraphed congratulatory letter - which means it's handwritten with a stylographic pen - on paper from the Andes for a friend who beat uterine cancer.
Wow, that’s so nice and many blessings to your friend for beating cancer. My mom went through a cancer battle. I know how tough it is.
Thank you.
I'm sorry your mother had to battle cancer, but I'm glad she won.
Thanks. Same to your friend. That’s such a hard time. Best to him/her.
I always have, here’s one from last year.
Hoping to make s’more

Very often... my mom received multiple drawings and art projects when I was a kid and one friend really liked the nightmare before Christmas movie and so she got a handmade sculpture from me when we were 15 and so on... I loved to do little sculpture with clay.
I have a big art piece/picture thing in my living room wall and my aunt wants one too when she moves out lol
(The one in my living room is from me)
How cool! I never really got into (or had the chance to) sculpting. Do you do this at home?
I used to, but not big sculptures smaller ones and also paint them cause I was always bad at drawing but yeah... sadly I haven't done that in years...
And yeah I just did them in my bedroom on my table
That’s cool! Thanks for sharing.
yes.
I grew up in the jewelry business, so when I was younger all of my girlfriends received handmade rings.
That didn't change much as I got older, just the price tag of the item.
Rings, bracelets, pendants, earrings just all sorts of stuff.
My ex-wife still wears her wedding set that I made her a long time ago, and it is holding up just fine.
I think it is odd, but she still loves it.
Oh wow, handmade jewelry is amazing. Do you still do that?
Sort of, I am "retired" but I can only sit still for about an hour.
So I spend more time at the firehouse, I still do some vintage jewelry restorations for one of my vendors, and I fill in for the guy that bought our family business and do work for him that his guy can't.
I used to go to work with my dad on Saturdays, he worked in the big city, and we lived out in the country, so he would sit me at a work bench and give me a scrap ring to "size", so I would try and we would go to lunch at Big Boys, there weren't any McDonalds back then which was a pretty big treat for a country kid, and after lunch I would try again, or try to fix what I had.
I was in the 3rd grade. I got better!
My wife gets hand made things once in a while, she prefers for some odd reason that I no longer make jewelry for other women unless I am getting paid.
Yes. I have baked and sent out cookies, cake-pops, at Christmas to my family and given to my daughters. I also knitted a scarf for the boyfriend of one daughter. He really appreciated it, and it makes me glad. My family members were surprised and appreciated the baked goods as well, and they arrived safely (and cold).
I sometimes paint a shoebox and put the present inside the box. Most often people consider the box as a gift itself. Does that count? If so, then yes. I also used to write stories and give them when I was younger and had $0.00, but I was a kid then so I don’t think that counts.
Yep. I used to gift my family members handmade gift cards for their birthdays until I was about 12. I stopped making them because my mom started giving me pocket money when I was 14, so I figured it would be much more meaningful if I saved up a little and bought them something they would actually use.
I think my brother threw away most of my gift cards when he cleaned his cupboard (fully) before going to college, lol.
He still has a handkerchief that I made for him though. It has a beautiful parrot design. I made it myself in 7th grade.
I give handmade gifts very often, I've made spoons, crocheted throw, jumpers, gloves and scarves as well as baked goodies! 😊
Mmm! You had me at baked goodies!
Well who can say no to fresh cakes and biscuits! 😅
I made a photo/collage album with pictures from the entirety of our relationship for my ex fiancée, I included hand written jokes between us that we had made at the time and other conversations we had with sentimental exchanges that was said scattered between the photos on the pages. I planned to update it every year but she decided to end our story at three and a half years when she cheated on me. Never doing something like that again lol
I painted a self-portrait for a friend as a request from her husband. I hated it personally, but it still hangs on their hallway wall.
There is something I could never do. I cannot draw worth a damn.
I draw. I gave my mom a few artworks, a friend an artwork of X-23 from X-Men and another friend an artwork of Delphinium from Darling In The Franxx.
I wish I could draw. I am okay with crafts and stuff but pretty rubbish when it comes to drawing/painting or anything like that.
I have! :) Handmade ashtrays (for mom and grandmother). Made a coffee mug once and gave that to my dad. I like to bake gifts and consider that handmade.
Yeap. Mostly small things, like food or wood utensils lol
FOOD 😋
You have this girls heart then…and some anon’s as well.
@blackcupcake
hahahaha yes!!! I wish we could tag him🥲
I've made a drawing or some kind of craft project for my mother almost every year for Mother's Day
Aww, that's sweet. I wish I could draw. I am okay with crafts but not great with drawing.
I have! I have made some funny and cute drawings with letters, baked goods, food…
I’ll take a baked good like a cupcake 😍
I’ll come to you with tons of different ones you can choose between😍
I’ll definitely choose the one in between. 🫢
lmfao… that one is the main course, you gotta have the appetisers I prepared first!
🤣🤣🤣
Yes the name frames for my sisters n cousin on their weddings... and also handmade (self made) leather mini wallet along w keychain to my another cousin
yes I do a lot of carpentry, and if you consider gardening, and thus a plant that I grew from seeds a handmade gift that too
I made a valentines card for an ex once. I actually cringe thinking back about it. (If your not 14 it’s not cute 😂)
No just a basket I made for my girlfriend that had a bunch of stuff in it that she liked. That is as close to handmade that I have gotten lol
Does food count, cause I love to gift homemade treats
Absolutely that counts! I love food gifts too!
They're always appreciated, and it allows me to cook and bake without reading everything myself ☺️
Mmm, now you got me thinking about sweets. YUM.
Yep! I've made a few blankets for family and friends!
Yeah I made my best friend a bracelet for his birthday a few years ago and last August I made my boyfriend a necklace with his name on it
