I prefer to buy cars that are 2-3 years old because they have many useable years remaining and represent the best value. I am currently considering the VW Arteon or the Lincoln MKZ. I have previously owned several VWs, owned a Lincoln, and had good experience with both manufacturers. However, I an open to considering other options for similar style cars. What is your opinion?
It really depends on your type of financial situation since the first three years give maximum depreciation , so you loose on the tax advantage, on the other hand you get a virtually new car at a maximum discount. So it cuts both ways.

The VW was made in Germany while the Lincoln was made in Mexico. Plus, the MKZ is no longer made while the VW still is, which could affect availability of parts down the road.
I'd prefer German engineering and the VW Arteon.
Buy a Porsche. You earned!
A Tesla is fun too!
Buy with cash is my only advice.
I think the Lincoln has more luxury and is probably more reliable.

I'd go for the Lincoln just because parts, maintenance and repairs will be much cheaper. Ford changes some of the electronics and interior between ford, lincoln, mercury, and the body some for mazda, but the engines, suspension and what not stay the same.
You'll always have plants making parts, full junkyards for the wire harnesses, instrument clusters and what not, cheaper oil changes. I just take the long view when buying a car. Like I got the honda odyssey for 1.5k more compared to the chrysler town and country because they require more maintenance. Though that turned out to be a false assumption in that case, the fuel economy device in the honda is an electronic hydraulic arm that fucks up fairly easily, costing about 2k, as one of the 3 engine mounts sigh.
Anyway, I'd recommend the Lincoln, but drive them both and see which one you like more at the end of the day.
Ferrari 458
Just kidding.
I see VW's are a pretty popular choice if all you need is wheels & motor in somewhat acceptable conditions/quality for a relatively low price.
Supposedly wagecucks and Team Leads drive those. The Lexus ls and es models are very reliable cars. A friend of ours has the Lexus ls model and he has had very good experience with it. It's very roomy and feels like your riding on a cloud.
I think the VW Arteon is the better choice, mainly because I think US automakers build substandard vehicles and overcharge for them. I presently own a Mazda 6, a Toyota MR4 2000, and a Porsche Boxster. I refuse to spend money on US made cars.
Probably the Lincoln

How about a Genesis?
