+1 yI haven't been in a long time, because I now live on my yacht and space is at a premium. I actually got rid of a lot of clothes, and a large portion of them were thrift shoppe finds over the years. Something like:
Hats x 20-30, Shirts x ~40, Pants and shorts x ~20. I also slimmed my tie collection down from around 40 to closer to 12. Got rid of a half a dozen suits and more than half my vests. I kept about 6 scarves, got rid of about 20-25. So many clothes and I still feel like I have a lot. Footwear: ditched at least 15 pair. I still have over 10 pair.Thrift shoppes are great and I don't subscribe to the issues people have with "wearing something someone else has worn", it has no logic. Washing things removes dirt and particles like that. It makes about as much sense as refusing to eat at a restaurant because you don't want to use a fork or spoon that was in someone else's mouth. Haha ha I can just imagine now someone who won't wear thrift shoppe clothes reading that and realizing all the tongues of other people that have been on silverware in their mouths and now will never be able to go out to eat again (unless it's disposable cutlery).

Anyway, I am all about thrift clothes. I have a few things I typically buy new:
Trainers and hiking boots/shoes, socks, underwear, polypropelene workout shirts, sunglasses, gloves.

I absolutely love thrift shopping! I've found some very beautiful clothes while doing so, acquiring them for much cheaper than what they would have normally cost at retail. :) It's fun, kinda like a treasure hunt!

+1 yI do, because you never know what you're going to find. I don't like clothes shopping, but something about the thrill of the hunt makes it a little more fun. The prices are good, with a little searching you can find good styles, and it's also better for the environment because you're not having to buy new clothes. What's not to like? With that said, I haven't done it for a long time, mostly because there aren't any good thrifts around my area anymore.

+1 yI'll consider it at times, casually. But I don't make it a way of life. The most common thing I spend money on is food and beverage. If a good bargain comes my way, I'll consider it. But I don't usually panic if necessity requires me to spend a few dollars more.
10 ReplyI used to go often when I was younger. I would look for a few specific and would post them straight on eBay when I got home. Now sometimes I need a few very specific things, I go to the big one near me and usually manage to buy 400 or 500 euros worth of stuff for less than 50 euros

+1 yAffordability, finding manual powered tools, and high quality stuff for 98% off its origonal price. Its why i shop thrift stores in the rich side of town. Its how i got my faux-fur lined suede leather jacket that only needed a few stiches sewn, that i got for $15
10 ReplyThere used to be a user here, @SaraSmithishere, who, with her mother, did a lot of thrifting and then turned it around to make a considerable profit. Sadly, she disappeared 13 months ago. I do miss her greatly.

+1 yI don't honestly. The idea of wearing clothing that belongs to others really frekas me out. I know they get washed but still. Honestly I don't even like the thought of people wearing clothes when getting rid of old stuff.

I sure hope you don't eat at restaurants then. The silverware has been in the mouths of literally hundreds, of not thousands of people. lol
Yeah if the place is big enough. For me to not have to constantly step aside for people to pass by me.

+1 yI was raised not to be a thrifter but as an adult I love the option of thrifting even if I don’t necessarily buy something in the end. I like the idea of buying something for cheap and use the exact same features even though it’s not brand new.

10 ReplyNah. Nothing against it but I only buy clothes when the old ones have too many holes for my low standards.
