My aunt’s birthday is in 3 weeks’ time. I’m buying her a bunch of flowers, in a vase. She doesn’t have anyone else much who cares about her. I don’t have much money. Should I buy her a really beautiful, big bunch of flowers, save up for a fortnight, to cheer her up? Or just a smaller bunch of sunflowers in a vase, which costs under $100? Which I could order next week?

Flowers whither and die in a week or so. The vase will live longer, hopefully. Candy - at least any that is sent to me- will disappear within a week or so. SO, maybe try for something with some lasting significance.
- - - you might consider ordering an actual plant/bush from a horticultural warehouse such as Stark Brothers. I just checked and I could get a rose bushlette for $18-20 plus $7 shipping. If you order $99 worth of items, the shipping is free. We ordered an apple tree for some friends of ours that moved out of state this way, and they always said they remembered us whenever they saw it.
Stark Brothers will ship the plant (s) at the best planting time for wherever it is being sent. They will send some sort of announcement that it will be coming to the recipient, if the shipping will not be immediate. Glad to hear that you care enough to send a gift.
It's the thought that counts it really is and I'm sure she wouldn't want you to spend too much money. Pick wild flowers and hand deliver them and she would be happiest
It's the thought that counts. I think is so sweet you want to do this for your aunt. Whatever you can afford I am sure she will appreciate.
