How many gifts should I give my friend’s daughter?

My old friend and her little girl are coming to visit Australia. They’re currently expats in another country. I always give my friend nice gifts, so I like to include the daughter. The little girl is quite active.

I’ve bought her a swimming pool barbie for her birthday for $19, a little yellow dog soft toy that I bought for $5; and a mermaid picture book for Christmas for $45 (on afterpay). Should I add in anything else? I’m only giving my friend 2-3 gifts. I understand that adults prefer 1 good gift per occasion. Little kids don’t have the same rules.

Oh gosh girl, you're so sweet for wanting to get your friend's daughter some gifts too! Honestly those you've already got her sound perfect. A few toys, a book - she's sure to love them all! I wouldn't stress too much about getting more.

Kids that age get so excited over one or two new things. And the last thing you wanna do is overwhelm her (or your friend!) with too much stuff. Plus when they're visiting, she might not have room to cart it all home anyway!

Maybe a cute top or outfit as another option if you see something cute in her size. But really, between the pool toy, stuffed animal and book, I think she's gonna think you're amazing! Don't go overboard - quality over quantity for a little one.

Also make sure to save some budget and energy for focusing on your friend too. Sounds like you've got the gift-giving totally covered already! Kids just appreciate any thought and love that goes into a gift. Don't stress - I'm sure she'll love what you've got planned!
