I'd say most of the time, because there have been occasions where I was in a rush and couldn't be bothered. Or when I had my car parked in the ultimate spot available and was more concerned about getting home and put the ice cream in the refrigerator before it melted. But I'm the one who will put the cart back in its spot like 98% of the time. It doesn't really require any effort. There are physically impaired people, people with small kids you don't want to see running around in search of a trolley. It's just common sense.

You do see some crazy things though. Most carts in Europe have a system where you need to unblock them by putting in a coin. They are chained together, you unlock the chain by putting in your coin. I knew a guy who was working near a supermarket and used to help out people unloading their groceries into the car. He then helped by putting the trolleys back and kept the coins for his morning coffee.

Big supermarkets in Spain have several stories, people usually take their trolleys up and down. Not so in Switzerland, where you are required to 'park' your trolley in a designated 'trolley parking space' before you go to the upper floors. Everyone obliges, because in Switzerland everything is as it should be.

I'm sure all of you have had this cart where one wheel is spinning constantly by itself and makes it almost impossible to steer in a straight line. Like a car with bad oversteer you can't keep straight in a bend. It's usually the one you find abandoned in the car park. It was left there for a purpose.

Among all behavioural things I have questioned in my existence, I never consider this one actually. Ummm, in practice I always return the trolley/cart/caddie/stuff without hesitation. Just like I put back the broom in the closet after use. And I see no sound reason to change this behaviour of mine.

Do I judge people leaving the cart on the carpark? In my head I think I do lol, not severely though.

It's so funny how our society thinks. Instead of figuring out a real solution because people might actually have reasons why they do things, we jump to judging and punishment and legislation. Good grief. Often, there aren't cart corrals near disabled spots, so the people leaving the carts in the disabled spots are often disabled themselves. Others are left because mothers can be arrested for leaving a child or infant in a hot car, even for a moment. Not all stores offer assistance or reserve parking near the corrals.

I always appreciated and accepted help offered by the stores that will send someone to help unload when I had babies. As an additional solution, I personally think parking on either side of cart corrals should be reserved for pregnant mothers and mothers of small babies. I also think there should be more corrals and a pickup line option where items can be loaded for customers (especially disabled people). Some stores have carts that can't leave the store, but that is problematic if there are a large amount of groceries.

So, no, I don't judge people on that, and judging someone's entire character based on taking the cart back is... I don't even know how to classify that. Basically, if taking a cart back is an indication of moral superiority, whatever happened to empathy and grace? Or offers to help take the cart back, perhaps? SMH...

I usually shop with my kids in the wagon or stroller but the times I use a buggy I put it back since i park by the return. I'd never judge someone for not putting it back tho. Sometimes those random ones in the parking lots have saved me from carrying my kids if I had to park away from the store or return

As I've gotten older, I've been tempted at times to not properly return a cart to its proper area.
I can't bring myself to do so.

As I've gotten even more aged, I now rarely go to stores and use carts, so the problem sort of resolved itself in that regard.

I I always return and I return any shopping cart that I see along the way I try to do it fast before like some manager getting angry with me. I like to do it and also I know that sometimes people are in a hurry or they physically can’t do it so I don’t judge. And I figure I’m paying it forward in case one day I really don’t have time to return it that way I know that I’ve already done my time 😛

I always return it and return other ones I see out in the parking lot. People who don't return carts are lazy as hell. No wonder people are so fat when they are too lazy to walk 50 feet to return the cart.

Same with people who decide they don't want a product and put it on the shelf wherever they happen to be. It's especially bad when it's refrigerated or frozen food at the grocery store.

100% of the time I return the cart to a corral. When people leave it a mess I organize it as much as possible. Most of the time I grab a cart from the stall on the way in to help the workers by some minor amount. I most certainly judge the people that don't. Heathens.

I always return the cart to the cart area, and usually organize the carts so it's easier for the person to take the carts back to the store. It's the courteous thing to do. People who don't return the carts, or just create a pile of carts are lazy.

I do, but a major reason for that is I often shop at ALDI so, to get my quarter back to free up a cart from the rack, I __have__ to bring my cart back to the rack.

This is one way ALDI saves money and passes the savings onto the customer: they don't have to pay anyone to be a cart jockey except for the end of the day for those people who don't bother.

It depends on how the car park is made. For example you have no reason not to do so at thy Asda I go to. It has places for them in every area of the car park takes you 2mins maybe.

So if someone is not bothering to do that then yes I judge them. But hey if the car park only had them near the entrance and your further away so it's more of a walk. I blame the shop not the person for making that bad choice.

Honestly I do always unless I'm angry. If I'm angry I leave it where it falls. Like yesterday my friend picked me up in the lane in front of the store. I left it right there. They didn't honor my 2 E-coupons worth $3 total. She said next time watch the cashier and make sure it is picked up. I go to the trouble of clipping the coupon onto my app then I'm supposed to do their job too? I don't get paid for that. I'll probably leave their old cart where I do from now on.
