I’m from a well off family and I have been using my money to help my close friend’s family out, so they can have gifts to open on Mother’s Day, birthdays and xmases. So they can have nice things that they want and need. My friend’s money goes entirely towards bills, but I’ve recently discovered that he just doesn’t want to work, even to help his family, who are dirt poor.
I was wondering if I should continue to help them? Or if I should just give them the Christmas gifts I receive and don’t want and some boxes of chocolates and small things for future birthdays and xmases? Their priority is on survival, but they’re so poor that they can’t even afford decent track pants or winter sweaters or coats.
They only need a few more things, all of which I can afford to give them. Old clothes in excellent condition to see them through summer, cheap but warm sweaters, a few pairs of yoga pants and some track pants. Maybe trousers and pencil skirts. I can see that they’re in need. I’ve mostly taken care of their material needs and wants. I’ve bought them nice jewellery, given them clothes, jewellery boxes and ornaments. I bought them decent winter coats for this Christmas.
I ask because while my family is well off, I’m not; and I’ve found myself living paycheck to paycheck to afford to purchase and ship things to them and I have no savings for my own future just yet.
