How much does a discount influence your buying decisions?

40, 50 or even 70% off the retail price. We've all seen deals that are hard to turn down. Even if some sellers may have been inflated their prices first to make it look like a good deal.

Do you go for a good discount in a heartbeat, or do you check out the original price first?

I HATE paying full retail! If I can find a way to get a discount, I'm getting it with sales, couponing, joining the membership clubs, online sign up bonuses, buying resale/thrift/estate sales, even if I have to wait months. With sales I know are coming monthly/annually whatever, I will spreadsheet the current price, and then when the sale comes see if the discount is steep enough to warrant a purchase. There are other items where I know they'll go fast, so as soon as there is at least a 25% drop, they are mine. It really is an art for me and definitely something I look into before any purchase. I can't remember the last time I bought something for the original price--I need the deal or no deal!

It'll influence me more online especially when I'm familiar with the usual price of something. The trick is to look at why it's discounted. Is a new range coming out and they need to clear stock or is it just crap and they can't sell full price.

I keep an eye out for discounts in stores that sell quality products, like clothing. They're quite expensive during the season, but as soon as the summer season (or winter season) ends, I know I can get up to 50 or 60%. The trick is to be there during the first days, otherwise it's hard to find you size of shoes or clothes.

In other stores, whicj will only give about 10%, I don't even bother waiting for the discount season.

So many of the "regular retail prices" are piles of BS anyway, I establish my "buy point" for a product if I need to, before shopping. 90%+ of what I buy is "on sale". I know the sale patterns of the stores nearest our home, so I get enough- when possible- to bridge us into the next sale on that item.

Regardless of discount I have to need / want the item. Discounts can and have enticed me to buy now but that’s only if I beleive the discount is actually legitimate and not some sales tactic

Price is irrelevant to most things I buy. If I want something, I will pay whatever it takes.

It does make me look twice but if it’s something I don’t know the normal price for, or if it’s an item I’m unfamiliar with, I’ll still research it first. If it’s something I already semi wanted I’m probably buying

It depends. It will rarely convince me to buy a product over a better one that is more expensive. It might however convince me to buy a product I want but might not have brought at a higher price.
