Lowes or Home Depot? Why do you prefer one over the other?

I think Lowes is better for appliances and they have Craftsman tools but Home Depot has a better selection of building supplies.

I don't really have a preference since I can get what I need at both. I think Lowe's is a little calmer and easier to shop at, but Home Depot might have a larger selection. I am not sure about either of those things, really, since I don't do enough shopping at these places to really know much about either one. There is a small hardware store near me called True Value. It has a surprisingly large collection of the things I need the most. I often go there when I need something for my home, rather than going to Lowe's or Home Depot, because it's a lot calmer and I really get good personal help. Maybe the prices are higher, but not by very much, and it is worth it to me to have the personal service since I really don't know what I am doing when I am buying hardware most of the time.

Yes, we have an ACE hardware store in town and I shop there a lot. I like to give my business to local merchants and they give out free popcorn on Saturday.

I have a True Value that I also shop at. A little pricey but convenient and it really is top quality, as far as materials and service!

The lumber at Lowe's is better than home depot. I like the gfci receptacles at Lowes also. When I can't find something at home depot I can usually get it at Lowes.

Home depot has better prices on recessed lights than my supply house and Lowes. I usually try to get stuff at home depot first because of the better prices

Yes, the electrical stuff you get at Lowes is better. that outdoor box that leaked like a sieve I got at Home Depot. The lumber is debatable.

Home Depot is a block away… so we go there more often.
we do like Lowes for their appliances… gotten a few replacements (fridges, dish washers).
we got our SpeedQueen washing machine from our local hardware store. They are more personable and know their stuff vs the big box stores.

Where I live, we have Lowes, Home Depot and Menards. Out of all of them, Home Depot is probably the best for cordless tools and most electric, as well as building materials. Menards building materials are fair, they have decent siding and shingles but their lumber is shit and they have all off brand tools. I would put Lowe's as the second best.

I have been using Ryobi tools lately. They used to be second rate but the ones tht I own have performed well.

I know a guy that does carpentry for a living and he buys Ryobi. When I was a kid, my dad only bought Makita, then switched to DeWalt. Now he's slowly changing to Milwaukee.

I like HD because illegals will congregate in the parkin lot. I can get supplies and secure the labor in one spot. Smarter, not harder.
