Anyone else feel like they don't fit in with their own culture?

everyone is like blah blah you should be proud of where you come from and asking me to join my culture group but I feel like its just a waste of time and I have no interest in learning about it.

Sometimes.

I get along better with all types of people, but I've never fully fit in with the stereotypical expectations of black society. And unfortunately, there is a disturbing amount of black people who honestly believe you have to be a stereotype in order to truly be black.

Yea...they can have fun doing that, while they're in jail I'll be traveling the world lol :P

I'm still raised majorly old school black, so I know the slang, understand the " struggle," and " soulful" aspects my culture seems to exude, but that stereotypicaly bullsh*t can kiss my naturally black ass.

One black chick made a comment because I was playing guitar with a bunch of white kids - something like," she's so whitewashed, she would play guitar..."

I was like...you dumb bitch lol. Jimmy Hendrix played guitar lol quite good :)

Oh wait he's not black though because obviously if you play guitar which is a modern " white person" instrument, suddenly your not black anymore.

What's worse, is that rock developed from jazz which had huge African American influences.

I know guys, her logic is amazing isn't it?

That's why I'm so put offish by certain aspects of my culture. There are more then not some pretty ignorant people and beliefs within it.

And I just can't stand for it.

If that makes me " not really black," or whatever, then so be it.

I know where my realities lie, and I don't need the world to define them for me.

i think I fit in.

im mexican. and I know a lot about mexican culture. but actual mexican culture like about the traditions, and all that. I am also very fluent in reading and speaking spanish.

i don't celebrate anything though. my mom never does that. I feel she's not very into the culture like she says she is.

but I feel like I fit in the culture.

but not with mexican people.

i can't identify with them. well, not the ones that are here in the united states. a lot of them are ghetto and loud and like to party and have drama.

and I'm the total opposite.

if that's mexican culture, then I do not fit in.

ive been to mexico, and the mexican ladies at the grocery store laughed at me. they didn't like me very much. I don't know why. I just went to do my grocery shopping of mexican candy.

im confused now.

i like culture, just not my own. I live in a place where people glorify stupidity and cut anyone down if you use big words, where the only socially acceptable activities for people my age are watching sports, playing video games or going out to town to sh*tty bars with sh*tty music getting sh*t faced and side stepping vomit on the way home.

i know there are places in the world where going out at night involves putting on nice clothes and going to listen to beautiful music or eating good food and drinking good wine with friends and having interesting conversations with interesting people...but not where I live.

I'm sorry, but I don't feel that way at all. Although I don't always agree with the values of my culture, I always appreciate learning about my roots. But, I enjoy it and learn willingly. By no means do you have to learn about your culture if you aren't interested or don't want to.

It's difficult if you live in another country and you're used to another culture. Also if your culture isn't presented in a nice way, like I know it's usually old people doing boring "culture" things that they want you to get involved in... then yeah, it can be uninteresting.

My own culture doesn't accept me because I don't look the part. So I understand where you come from but I actually would love to get fully immersed and accepted in mine.

i feel like I don't really fit in with my religion, but leaving it completely would mean leaving my place to belong, disappointing my family, and possibly ending up all alone. it's a very big struggle.
