Do American guys like foreign/British girls?

Hi there, I know its pretty random, but I am moving to America for a year to spend my 3rd year at uni. I'm scottish and I would like to date while I'm there.



I have noticed that most girls in American colleges are extremely attractive and sporty, I am extremely average, and not sporty. I am just wondering if being British will help me stand me stand out a bit?

Also, is there any advice for charming an American?

Absolutely, Scots even more in my case. If you're anything at all like Karen Gillan (I know she's a model and actress, but still Scottish, so at least you talk alike.) you'll have no problem getting guys' attention here.

If you're a drinker, specifically, beer and whiskey, you'll be able to get some respect and admiration at bars, because so many American girls only like fruit juice and vodka drinks or shots. I personally dig a gal that can sip on a glass of Scotch or knows the difference between a good beer and a bad beer.

You can't really generalize about what we're attracted to because there's such diverse tastes, you've just got to find your place in it all.

I've been to Scotland and England, and most of Western Europe, so I'm just a bit confused... I though that Scots hated being called British? Why'd you call yourself that? Where's you Gaelic pride? Maybe you were just dumbing it down for us Yanks. And just so you know, I can tell you for a fact that, at least where I live, Irn-Bru and Mars bars are incredibly difficult to find, so if those are your thing, be ready to order them online or have your family mail you some every so often. Thaanks for the nice comment! and your right about the drink! But scots only hate being called English, not british, because we are british. We like having the queen and the olympics, so are proud to be scottish and british! just not English...haha

Ah, my mistake then. In Edinburgh I actually some graffiti the said "Scottish Not English", I seem to have just mixed up the two words.

You'll stand out immediately if you have a strong Scottish accent. It depends on the guy, but I think an accent is sexy. As for charming an American guy, it depends on who you're wanting to charm. But I'd say you're best off by trying to be confident, funny and open to people. Most guys will respond to that, I think. As far as something specifically Americans are attracted to, I guess if you have a shapely figure wearing low-cut tops and showing a tasteful amount of skin couldn't hurt.

there are plenty of average non sporty American girls...but you stand out because you're Scottish :) just be yourself :)

You're going to be noticably different due to nuances in style (hair, clothing) and obviously your accent. That may be a turn-off for a small percentage of guys, but I think a much larger percentage will find you interesting for those reasons and will want to get to know you better. A lot of guys will be thinking (whether they even realize it or not): "You don't get THIS every day around here!"

As ridiculous as I feel saying it, I find a lot of European accents charming, and I think a lot of American guys do. Mostly, Russian and British, personally, not so much Spanish or South/Central American. (Can't understand them, lol.)

And charming American guys--well, don't hide your accent, and if you want a guy's attention, show some interest.

With the Scot accent, you'll stand out. Have fun and use normal expressions (for you). Ask for a crisp, or to pass over the chips or want to get a biscuit. Some will look puzzled (many yanks know chips/fries, but biscuit/cookie not as common).

Eh just be yourself as ciche as that sounds. I'm sure there will be guys that are attracted to you just the way you are. To answer your questions though yes your accent will help you stand out. I know guys who like british accents actually. And as far as things we find attractive and charming, I'm pretty sure it will be the same things that guys where you are from find attractive and charming.

Other than maybe having a problem understanding them, I have no problem with them. I'm part scottish myself. But I have to admit, that is a tough accent to understand sometimes

Your accent alone will pull guys away from some of the other girls and towards you. I think you are probably downplaying your own looks and over estimating other girls' looks too. You will do fine.

Oh yes! oh man when I used to work in Best Buy this girl was visiting from the UK and when she spoke I could not help but grin and she grinned as well.. Her accent was so sexy
