There are so many dog breeds, it's not surprising that some breeds crop up and you've never heard of them before. Here's some handsome, less common dog breeds that are family friendly and relatively easy to raise.
Rhodesian Ridgeback (African Lion Dog/Hound)
Origin: Rhodesia
Height: Males - 63–69 cm (25–27 in), Females - 61–66 cm (24–26 in)
Temperament: Rhodesian ridgebacks are loyal, intelligent and reserved towards strangers. They are sensitive to poor treatment when young and require award based training and socialisation. They protect their families and can become excellent guard dogs with adequate training. It doesn't require extensive exercise.
They're called "ridgeback" because their fur causes a line down their back:
Samoyed (Samoyedskaya)
Origin: Russia
Height: 24 inches
Temperament: Despite it's wolf like appearance, they're incredibly friendly, gentle and energetic dogs. They're considered to be multi talented dogs which require quite a lot of exercise. They can be white, cream or golden in colour.
Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
Origin: Ireland
Height: 19 inches
Temperament: These dogs are very good with kids and shed very little fur. They're very affectionate to their owners.
Vizsla
Origin: Hungary
Height: 24 inches
Temperament: A super friendly dog that's low maintenance and sheds very little.
