Being Open-Minded and How it Can Improve Your Life

People are often depressed because they hold fears inside of them - things they don't want other people to know about. Or maybe they feel their opinion doesn't matter, as if it has no value. It's this fear that causes us to be shy, to keep ourselves concealed from other people. We are all unique in our own ways, so to keep that beauty locked away inside, even from yourself, is what makes people lack confidence. It's what kept some of us from playing with the other kids at the park or during recess at school. Being open minded has so many advantages so help one better themselves.

You know all the group projects you had to do in elementary school? Or in gym when you were called up to play tug-of-war next. Or in art class where you and your whole class have to paint a little illustration to describe yourself on a large sheet of paper? It's situations like these where lacking open mindedness can have a negative impact on a person.

So, what does it mean to be open minded? I'm not going to throw facts off of google or Wikipedia at you. Instead, I'm going to be open minded and share my thoughts on it. To put it simple, being open minded means the ability to share things about yourself to others. Opinions, life experiences, feelings, any of these things, no matter what they may be. Take a person who likes the same gender people for example.

Normally it'd be a hard thing to bring up to your friends/family because you fear they'll have a negative reaction. But, there are people who don't mind straight up saying they're gay, bi, lesbo, a-sexual or whatever their preference may be. Being able to share this with other people, even ones you don't know, without fear, is a great way to keep your self confidence up.

People who are not open minded tend to keep to themselves and aren't really happy from how I see it. But, people who are open minded, tend to enjoy conversing/meeting new people, sharing ideas and wiling to work with others.

Go back to the art class reference I made.

Say a you're an open minded kid, and you notice one of your classmates just sitting there, unsure of what to do. What I would do, is start by asking them what's wrong and of course they'll tell me what they're having trouble with. Then I'd offer my ideas and help this child dip their emotional brush into a more vibrant color, other then white, grey or black or dark blues. I'd relate to them by giving my own life experience and how we can weld the two together to make a great piece of art among the others.

Take this piece of art as an example. Each person is a system of gears and cogs which work in a way no other person's does. Although, that's sort of why I don't like this image - it's mirrored. But, anyway, when two people chat, talk, socialize, share those experiences, ideas and such, they're rearranging each others gears, exchanging them, mixing them up to create something new.

What is the product? Well, it can be many things. Maybe it's that painting you helped that child make, maybe it's a beautiful friendship blooming into a vibrant red rose. The seed is there, but it won't grow unless you water it. And if you don't, it's a simple flower put full of soil. Much like roses, these friendships may take a while to bond, to build up this strength inside of yourself to be open to other people.

When I was little, I was an outcast. I was picked on by bullied on the daily, and had no friends. In my lone time, I'd just write. It'd cheer me up but I never had the strength to present my works to other people. I had self doubts, lacking confidence - lacking open mindedness. But, within the past couple years of my life, I've learned being open to people has lots of advantages. I just needed some self improvement. I thought my life was just going to be an endless cloudy day.

Then, I had this epiphany and the sun has been shining brightly since.

Being open minded can help in so many ways. It's made me so much happier, confident and joyful. I love meeting new people and sharing my life story with them and in return, I learn about another person. We are all beautiful in our own ways, so to be able to remember all of you would make me plenty happy.

I will be honest, when I first began using this site, I was scared but you Gaggers have proven to be humble, nice and respectful people ~ <3
