My Take on Various Random Issues

*Disclaimer* There's bound to be something I write that will offend someone. So if you are offended easily, don't read this post.

First topic: Depression.

Why do people get depressed? Sometimes it's from a life event and it's a natural reaction. Sometimes it's from a mixture of things. Etc. Most people would say that chronic depression is caused from a "chemical imbalance in the brain." I think this is a bullshit claim. Here's why: If you look at how most mental illnesses are diagnosed, they include things such as: behavioral patterns, thought patterns, and your emotions. All of these things except the emotional part are in our control. If I have a habit of negative thinking, I can change it. If I have a habit of being lazy, eating a shit diet, and complaining chronically, I can change it. I think that to tell people that they can't help how they act and feel is a disservice and creates people who see themselves as victims. Often if we change how we think and act, that will change how we feel.

Topic 2: Marriage.

Marriage in Western societies has failed. Men are giving up on marriage and rightfully so. 50% of them end in divorce, and when they do end, the divorce courts favor women. Men will often lose half their wealth and their children. What rational person would sign up for a deal like this? If a parachute only wokred 50% of the time, would you still use it? I hope not.

Topic 3: Theism and religious philosophy.

Is there a God? I don't know. I don't think it can be known for a 100% fact. There is no tangible proof of anything supernatural so there's that. The religious will often reply with "You just have to have faith!" What a stupid thing to say. In no other regard of life than religion is it okay to have no evidence for a claim. Yet, the biggest claim of all, whether there's a God or not, requires no evidence? Give me a break. The closest I can see to proving there's a God are a couple of philosophical arguments. But those still don't prove the existence of any specific gods.

1. Yes, Yes, HELL to the motherfucking YES!!! As a survivor of long term clinical depression over a decade I can totally relate to you! I always felt if I wanted to change things, then I would have done so long ago but depression isn't just having "constant negative thoughts". It goes way beyond it and it's more often than not out of our control. Also many people don't understand, that depression cannot be coped by one recipe, which many have suggested to me like they know better. Methods I have tried and didn't work. Then they start to blame me for not doing those methods, that didn't work. It always gets me how ignorant and naive they can be.

2. Great point! As you know I am also not planning to get married ever since marriage has no relations to a relationship in my opinion. It's more like a business legal contract altering your rights, which puts us at great risks. Marriage disappoints and repels me. Love letters will flatter and touch me. Besides - marriage is too overpriced and mostly expensed by men.
You'll only involve our enemy - the government - in your life. And for what? So you can pay for the marriage and divorce fees. It's NOT romantic. It's HORRIBLE!

3. I have so much to say about religion but not enough time at the moment. Essentially I am actually an atheist but i have figured out how religion works and why people follow religion.
I will give you a push into the direction now so you can see it for yourself. I will explain later.

Basically religion can be made out of anything, not just the ancient old fairy tale about the invisble man in the sky (hell, I like to think, that those MLP ponies exist and have faith in me). It just works in a spiritual level and the influence of those priests and pastors.

And you will see how religion helps people coping in their life. In other words if they fail in life (or are successful) then it was - as they say - "gods plan" for them to fail/succeed and they will feel content, confident and happy about it. In that kind of way. There may not be a god but believing, that there is one is what drives them.
It just surprises me why theists couldn't have explained it to me like that until I figured it out myself.

Still religion is not my thing. At least not the invisible man in the sky. More like the MLP ponies for me.

It's up to us to decide. Personally i rely on science, studies, facts, logic and evidence. Never before have those things fooled me whereas religion has successfully provided mostly nonsense.

Depression: It's entirely a disservice. Granted those people often need outside help to get the ball rolling and that's perfectly acceptable. However medically it IS a chemical imbalance. But that imbalanced was caused by constant negative thinking which could be do to awful events that are out of anyone's control. If everyone was in CBT from an early age then no one would ever reach the point of MDD.
Marriage: Couldn't agree more. However something needs to be done with society and why people can't form long lasting relationships anymore. I have very few ideas that are reasonable on that subject. As well as the current fail rate of the t-11 parachute is 1.1% and has caused 3 deaths in the less than 5 years of being used. Not looking great there either lol.
Religion: Organized religion is pure cancer. However I'm all for people believing whatever they want as along as it isn't hurting anyone else. I'm Wiccan and practice alone and in relative privacy. I feel like it should be a personal thing. I can't say I have proof of anything that you couldn't dismantle. It's just what I choose to believe and that makes me happy. You choose to not believe and (I hope) that makes you happy. Both are perfectly fine. If anyone is so insecure in their beliefs that they feel the need to defend them as "the correct answer" then they should probably reconsider their deity/deities or lack there of.

People who have no idea what they are talking about should keep their ignorant opinions to themselves.

You are just perpetuating the myth that depression is simply a state of mind that can be willed away.
As someone who has suffered clinical depression for over 30 years I can tell you, you are dead wrong.
Some cases of mild depression can be treated with simple psychology.
More sever cases cannot.

By perpetuating this myth you are doing a great disservice to people that suffer from a serious desease.
I run into this shit all the time. And the problem is compounded by what that myth suggests. If it is just a mental state that means you can quickly change it. Failing to do so would mean: I'm lazy, or don't want help, or not smart enough, or want attention, or many other ridiculous ideas people want to attribute to somebody who seemingly refuses to help themselves. Inevitably opinions become judgements.

I don't deserve that. Particularly since I have spent decades searching for a way to triumph over a desease that has all but ruined my life.

Imagine telling someone with cancer that they should just be able to will the cancer away. It's just because they allow themselves to have bad thoughts that they have cancer. Therefore as you see it destroy their life you can know they are just allowing this to happen to themselves.
Now they have several problems: cancer, you and much of society denying they actually need help.

Who gives a shit about a disclaimer.
You have posted misinformation about a desease that affects many people terribly, and by doing so you are perpetuating a stigma that has a real, negative effect on those people. That shit must be straightened out. A disclaimer does not isolate you from people telling you, you are wrong about something. Particularly when by doing so, you are making things worse for people who suffer a terrible disease.

Let's now look at the idiocy of putting a disclaimer that tells you to not read something if you are negatively affected by it? How would someone know; UNLESS THEY ACTUALLY READ IT. Then what? When they see you doing damage to people they should just ignore it?
You must at least include " I am extremely ignorant but what I'm about to talk about and therefore, my opinions can be read but not considered anything of value.

Now let's consider you just wrote a piece that has negative effects on people who struggle from a desease...

I feel I should give you part marks for the depression bit. Most depressions are indeed brought upon by victimized little snowflakes who just need to change their mindsets to fix their problems, but sometimes life gets really nasty all on its own. Getting cancer probably comes with depression, and no mindset change will ever cure you.

Courts (in Canada at least, my lovely country) do NOT automatically favor women in divorce. That's an outright myth and I can provide proof and counterarguments if you want, but unlike that other guy that disagreed with you I read your disclaimer. And for what it's worth, I do agree that Western marriage is dying, but rather from the sheer rates of divorce and weak people having affairs or leaving at the first sign of trouble.

The less I say about organized religion, the better. Merely consider the concept of faith - all it's value lies in it going completely AGAINST reason.
