This is going to be the TOP SEVEN amazing astronomical things discovered in the last thirty years.
NUMBER ONE: Large Magellanic Cloud Supernova - 1987
This supernova was detected in the Large Magellanic Cloud, but happened in one of the nearest galaxies close to us. This particular supernova could be seen without a telescope and with the human eye! It has been four-hundred years since the last visible supernova (Wish I could have saw it)!
NUMBER TWO: Gaspra - 1991
Galileo (the spacecraft) had obtained first up-close pictures of the asteroid "Gaspra". The pictures of the asteroid showed craters and cracks on the asteroid.
NUMBER THREE: Shoemaker-Levy 9 Strikes Jupiter - 1994
EIGHT-TEEN fragments of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 had struck Jupiter. It would've been a full comet if the tides of Jupiter didn't break it into eight-teen pieces. All eight-teen fragments were producing 'fireballs' because of their high-speed impact. They also made new cloud features.
NUMBER FOUR: Planets Orbiting Stars - 1995
Astronomers working in USA and Switzerland found that there are planets like ours orbiting other stars that look like our Sun!
NUMBER FIVE: Fossil Life in a Martian Meteorite - 1996
A meteorite was blasted from Mars into space by an asteroidal impact! The meteorite was found and astronomers found it contains fossil traces of biological activities and what looks to be life- like structures!
NUMBER SIX: Gamma Ray Bursts - 1998
The gamma rays have been proven to have been originated in other distant galaxies, not our own galaxy. This has made the mystery of their origin and power still undefined and the mystery is deepened!
NUMBER SEVEN: Mars Has Water? - 2002
A spacecraft that has been orbiting Mars has suggested large ice lies under the surface of Mars!
Thanks for reading! I hope you learned something! I love all your feedback and suggestions for more myTakes! Thanks again!
