If most men were not willing to step aside for women and children then the crew would not have stopped them. They would have overpowered them. I do not deny that the Titanic tragedy has been misused for things like trying to deny female suffrage, but that doesn't give you the right to slight the heroics of those who gave their lives to the sea that night.
Additionally as people have been mentioning were the crew not men.
I looked it up there were a few female crew members, but 87% of them lived as opposed to only 22% of the male ones.
If a woman is traveling with her child she’ll do everything possible to save her child. If a man is traveling alone with his child, he’ll do everything possible to save that child. Both will risk their own lives.
Yes and that's how it should.
Women don't deserve special treat just because they have a pussy.
Fuck that shit, want equality? get equality.
2 women think they're better than you because they're a woman apparently. Surprise surprise.
0 fucks given about women and children or other men, fuck everybody else I'm saving myself and only myself. Cause in my club its only me and just me.
Really? In my club there are three members! Me, Myself and I
I don't think anyone asserted that men were being 'noble' and stepping aside. The think whenever the discussion about 'women and children first' comes up the point is just that it's there, it's not to say that men engage in it wholeheartedly. By saying people on the Titanic were beating men back to save the women and children that's you reinforcing the point, not arguing against it.
I mean it doesn't really sound like much of a myth since at the end of the day an overwhelmingly male crew ensured that 75% to 17% survival rate. I get it, you want to put us down but, please... stick to the facts.
This point really should be stressed. I think feminism won that battle 75% to 17%... because of vagina.
I wouldn't let a woman take my place in that situation... why should I? They are just as bad as men are. Some good some bad. Women these days definitely wouldn't be getting my spot lol.. I'd probably take up an extra space for my bag.
In that situation I wouldn't sacrifice myself to save a woman I don't know. I have a family myself, and I have to stay alive for them.
Men have been dying to protect women for thousands of years.
A very interesting Take. You seem very knowledgeable about maritime incidents. I'm sure it would be fun to pick your brain sometime... ^_^
I agree that now we should have enough lifeboats for EVERY passenger, NOT just the women and children. It shouldn't be every person for themselves. We should make every effort to help our fellow people.
Good. By this vary post women really show how they don’t deserve to be saved first.
Everybody for themselves. Let’s see women living equality!
Well when it's time to Embrace the Feminist and HATE Man, every woman have oppinion, are independent "do everything better than Men".
My Ass that I would sacrifice MY OWN LIFE to save these arrogant sluts. Or everyone.
Women and children should come first in my opinion.
Because they're automatically worth more than you right?
@Kkaos It's just the way I was raised and what I was taught in the military. Children don't deserve to die and I'd sacrifice my life for an innocent child without hesitation. With women, it's just sort of intrinsic for me to be protective.
I understand that, and that's a personal thing, however I don't feel it should be a rule for society.
We're wired to protect children as they're vulnerable and they're the future. As for women, I also see where you're coming from, but I think you'd agree that you'd want to put a woman first because you're a respectable person, not because someone told you that you have to.
I'd have boarded a life boat even if I had to throw a child off.
Sorry not sorry, I wanna live.
And then there is that captain of that Greek ship that, when it foundered, caught the first helicopter to "go ashore and supervise the evacuation".
I think you are referring to the Costa Concordia. That captain is the worst of the lot, because he not only left passengers to die, he left his crew, and was responsible for the lag in time with telling people to actually start evacuating and getting to their muster stations. He deserved to stand trial for the 32 deaths on that ship, BUT, I've read about and heard about the crew, and some of the ones who did perish, did step aside and allowed passengers, male and female, to board before themselves, dying because of it because the ship listed terribly throwing them to their deaths.
Id rather stick with the original saying that existed before women and children first. Women do not belong on a ship, they bring bad luck.
Im seeing some pretty sexist bastards on this post.
I personally think children should go MORE safer with adults/personals and be leading by them safety while other adults can go on.
Men and children first is a real rule that is used. It was dropped out of favor around 25 years ago, however, it is not a myth.
Also, I dont think I have seen a version of the titanic where the men just voluntarily stepped aside. No, everyone is desperate and trying to get on the lifeboats.
And also, it is the captain goes own with the ship, not the crew. The crew survived yes, but the survival rate amongst the officers was incredibly low. I think the highest officer who survived was like the 4th ranking.
