The Internet Poem That Has Touched The Hearts Of Thousands: "Look Closer Nurse, Open Your Eyes -What Do You See?"

This Internet poem has been going viral for years. There's a few various stories surrounding it's authenticity ,as well as two different versions .One version is about an elderly gentleman, but the most popular is about an elderly lady

It was allegedly found by a nurse in a geriatric hospital. The story is ; an elderly patient passed away leaving nothing of value except for this poem on a scrap piece of paper. The poem is written in the voice of the old woman in the nursing home who is reflecting upon her life.

However, the truth is supposed to be that a nurse in a geriatric hospital had written it over 40 years ago.It is alleged that she wrote it in order to highlight the importance of maintaining the dignity of the lives of elderly patients, and to recognize them as a person

Regardless of the truth behind the poem ,it has touched the hearts of thousands of people from around the world. It teaches us not to ignore or brush aside elderly people ,but to look at the young soul within. To treat them with the respect and dignity that they deserve .To look at the person they are....and the person they once were

"Look Closer Nurse,Open Your Eyes ,What Do You See?"

What do you see nurse.....what do you see
What are you thinking when you look at me:
A crabbed old woman, not very wise
Uncertain of habit with far-away eyes

The Internet Poem That Has Touched The Hearts Of Thousands:

Who dribbles her food and makes no reply
When you say in a loud voice 'I do wish you'd try'

Who seems not to notice the things that you do
And forever is losing a stocking or shoe

Who, resisting or not, lets you do as you will
With bathing and feeding, the long day to fill.

Is that what you're thinking, is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse. You're NOT looking at
ME!

I'll tell you who I am as I sit here so still
As I move at your bidding, eat at your will:
