I am just going to set the record straight, here and now, if you express suicidal tendencies on this site, and I see this, I will be reporting that to G@G admin, not because I am selfish, not because I am trying to get you banned from the internet, but because I care about my fellow humans.

This MyTake has been brought to you by the paraphrased/redacted, formerly 559 word manifesto I received in my inbox today because I clicked “report suicidal tendencies” on a post in which this person expressed once they found a home for their pet they would be taking their own life.

You want to know why the world sucks and people are unhappy? Because of brainless selfish f*cks like you who have it easy and think the best way to help those who don't is to try to get them banned from the internet.

Where there is help there is hope

Even after receiving this lovely piece of prose in my inbox and being informed I had been blocked, I do not regret reaching out for help and I would do it again. I have said it once and I will say it again, life is always worth living (unless you are about to shoot up a school, commit a sexual crime or murder; in which place please do us all a favor and off yourself before you do something heinous).

Yes, the posting guidelines clearly cover posts which mention suicidal:

Suicidal Tendencies - Posts that glorify suicide or questions asking how to commit suicide will be removed. This also includes posts that glorify self-harm such as cutting, engaging in eating disorders, and other harmful behavior. Members can talk about these subjects in questions as long as it does not glorify the action or ask members “how” to commit such actions. Example: “What’s the best way to commit suicide?” These posts are removed and we send the user a help message informing them how to get help.

While others who are thinking only in a self-centered mode may condemn this guideline, it is in place to protect the larger community and to prevent those who would use suicidal threats as a manipulation. I have hidden many posts which violated this guideline and will continue to do so.

Bottom line: If you are truly suicidal, this is not the place to seek assistance, and spreading your message of doom and gloom has some potential to hurt others but no potential to help them.

I'm interested in helping you because I had a history of suicidal tendencies myself, and they started when I was 10 years old when I told my mom I wished I was never born because I was failing math class, and I was under a lot of pressure because of schoolwork, friends, and people who were really mean to me. People would treat me differently in school, and now when I think about it, it was probably because of the color of my skin, or just because I was the new student that year. This one girl would shame me for every little thing I did, but if one of her friends did something worse, she would not care, and tons of other girls weren't nice to me, I had to get this one girls permission to play with my best friend whom I met at the end of the year, and the worst thing was, I was always nice to them because I wanted to be their friends even after they treated me like dirt. After that, I was happy until in 5th grade, I was bullied because I stood up for a friend and the bully began to pick on me, and tons of girls would still treat me differently and wouldn't let me be around them because they thought I was "weird". Later, people began to call me ugly, and up into 6th grade I was known as the weird shy girl, and 7th grade, boys ignored me, called me ugly, made fun of my middle eastern features, would whisper about me to their friends when I was right there in front of them. In 7th grade, that's when I had real suicidal tendencies, that's when I would daydream about taking my life, and when my mom was putting a lot of pressure on me as well, and I started going to therapy. I went to therapy for a few months and I was just fine. In 8th grade, the school told me I had to go to a lower English class because they said I had the reading level of a 3rd grader even though I had nearly a 100% in English. Over the summer, I posted a question and I updated it and I had some suicidal tendencies, and it got taken down, but it made me feel worse because I wanted to reach out. And now, i'm in 9th grade but I really want to help people with the same thoughts and feelings, and just people who suffer mentally. So, can I help you? I'd really love to do that. Adolescence is a very difficult time. I too daydreamed of taking my own life in 7th grade after being bullied by mean girls. Trust me when I say it does get better. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Anyone who would make fun of you for the color of your skin or features is misguided and uneducated.

My recommendation to you is to power through school, focus on your studies as best you can and find a college where you feel comfortable with the student body. You have a long, promising life ahead of you. :)

That's lovely.
But as someone who attempted before, I agree with the heartless-sounding takes on it that nope, honestly I think if you actually see how hard it actually is because the body always wants to survive and how fucking painful the aftermath is, both physically and emotionally, it ends up changing someone. It takes literally coming inches to having killed yourself and survived through a fluke to really see things clearly and realize that life is precious.
And it takes being thrown through a few furnaces over the course of a few years before you finally end up staring down the next bigger one and going "well, this is gonna suck but eventually the air conditioning does kick in for a while".

As I may have told you, I am an University of Arkansas Psychology student. (by the way... to anyone reading this is not the time for "Woo Pig" jokes.) I read this believe the person is very troubled but I would need more to go on. Did he give his motives for suicide.

Motives are complex. I am not trying to contact them myself since I don't know them I am not yet certified to practice and no one who is not should try to professionally intervene.

I was thinking kinda the same thing but I had in mind: an animal is wandering too close to a potentially dangerous situation, say, the edge of a cliff where the ground at the cliff is not very stable and will easily collapse and/or, beyond the cliff is a large amount of razor sharp points and YOU KNOW this stuff is there and don't want the animal to get hurt by it so, you do what you can to get them away from there but, all they know is, "Get the fuck away from the human!! It might hurt me!!" so, no matter what you do to get it to stop from going to the danger point, it walks right into it, anyway, and gets killed!!
You're only other option was to leave it alone in the hope that it WOULDN'T go too close but, the chances are, it was already too close and their death was pretty much eminent!
It's kind of like these dreams I have that predict the future. so far, they've never come true anywhere near enough time for to warn someone of what's going to happen (only about 2 seconds ahead of time) and, they're NEVER of any importance! (A guy is gonna walk through the front door. 2 seconds later, a guy walks through the front door! So what? Nothing bad happened, nobody got hurt!) I may be able to warn someone ahead of time about something that's gonna happen but, they think I'm nuts or refuse to believe me so, why bother telling them?

It's easy for you to say that suicide is not a solution but ask them those who're really suffering.

True. In cases of terminal illness I can understand wanting to end one’s life on one’s own terms.

Suicide in any other capacity is so hurtful to that person’s loved ones.

I had a teacher in high school who his son totaled his car then killed himself rather than face his dad. I tell my kids there is nothing they could ever do that would make me not love them.
