Top 10 Chick Flicks on Netflix

So, let’s put it this way: I’ve watched an embarrassing amount of movies on Netflix, and there’s absolutely nothing I love more than a chick flick. I’ve put together a list of the top 10 chick flicks to steam on Netflix, but I could have made this list much longer.

1) Mean Girls, 2004

“On Wednesdays, we wear pink.”

If you haven’t seen Mean Girls, you are seriously missing out. The movie stars Lindsay Lohan (pre-crazy), Tina Fey, and Rachel McAdams, and takes place at North Shore Highschool – where "The Plastics" rule all.

Cady Heron (Lohan), a previously homeschooled girl from Africa, enters the crazy world of public school for the first time. Her crazy encounters include sabotaging the school’s Queen Bee, falling for a forbidden boy, and joining the school’s competitive math team, The Mathletes.

2) Clueless, 1995

“Why should I listen to you, anyway? You’re a virgin who can’t drive.”

This movie may be 20 years old, but it will forever be a classic. Twenty-something girls all over the world could never forget the way they felt when Cher and Josh finally got together. It was everything we hoped it would be.

Set in Beverley Hills, Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) is beautiful, rich, charming, and determined to get everything she wants. Her besties include Dionne (Stacey Dash) and Tai (Brittany Murphy). Cher deals with the drama of losing her virginity, making perfect grades, and playing Cupid at school.

3) Pretty in Pink, 1986

“You know, it’s so insane that someone you’ve never met, never talked to, can be your enemy.”

Molly Ringwald ruled the 80’s. Her perfect red hair made her the dream of every guy, and the style inspiration for every girl. Her portrayal of Andie Walsh in Pretty in Pink was perfect.

A poor girl living with her struggling father is torn between her childhood sweetheart, Duckie, and the hottest (and richest) guy at school, Blane – who just so happens to be in love with her too. Typical high school drama ensues, and true love wins. It’s a must-watch.

4) She’s All That, 1999

“I feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. You know, except for that whole hooker thing.”

A typical ugly duckling turned beautiful swan story, but with lots of laughs in-between. Starring Rachel Leigh Cook as Laney Boggs, the hot mess art freak, and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Zack Siler, the sexy cool guy. The two form a connection that starts off as friends, but grows into something much more.

Zack claims he can turn any girl into the prom queen, simply by dating her. His friends put him to the test, and bet him to turn the nerdy Laney Boggs into the prom queen. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll re-watch the movie at least 5 times.

5) 13 Going on 30, 2004

“Thirty, and flirty, and thriving!”

Careful what you wish for! Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo star in this adorable romantic comedy, and I’m not ashamed to say that I actually fell in love with Mark Ruffalo because of his performance in this movie.

On her 13th birthday, Jenna Rink (Jennifer Garner) makes a wish to skip the rest of her childhood and turn 30. When her wish comes true, she gets a sneak peek into the way her life was going to turn out – and it wasn’t pretty. She finds herself again, and transforms into the woman she always hoped she’d be.

6) The Sweetest Thing, 2002

“I wasn’t suggesting that the two of you get married, I just thought maybe you could get it on!”

When three 20-something besties live together, you can only imagine the kind of fun there is to be had. Christina Walters (Cameron Diaz), Courtney Rockcliffe (Christina Applegate), and Jane Burns (Selma Blair) star in this raunchy comedy.

The three friends coach each other through all of life’s problems, specifically their love and sex lives. From getting a certain male body part stuck in a very uncomfortable place, to unexpected homosexual encounters in a men’s bathroom, these three goofballs face it all. Watch it with your best friend, and laugh till you cry.

7) Sleepless in Seattle, 1993

“Destiny is something we've invented because we can't stand the fact that everything that happens is accidental.”

The queen of all chick flicks. Sleepless in Seattle is everything you could ever want in a romantic movie. Starring the gorgeous Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, the two make you feel what love really is all about.

After his wife dies, Sam (Tom Hanks) decides to move himself and his son to Seattle for a change of scenery. While there, Sam’s son calls a radio talk show and talks about his father needing a new wife. Letters from all over the country are sent to Sam, but one woman makes a lasting impression: Annie (Meg Ryan). Warning: I’ve seen this movie at least 20 times, and I cry every single time. Watch it with tissues.

8) Maid in Manhattan, 2002

“There was a part of me that wanted to know what it felt like, to have someone like you look at me the way you did just once."

A modern day Cinderella(ish) story, and one of my personal favorites. Maid in Manhattan stars Jennifer Lopez, who plays Marisa, a maid at a luxurious hotel. She is hardworking, ambitious, and doesn’t have time for love… or so she thinks.

A man running for senator, and a guest at a suite in the hotel, sees Marisa wearing a gorgeous outfit and assumes she is a guest at the hotel, rather than an employee. He pursues a relationship with her, and she keeps up with the façade of pretending to be someone she isn’t – until she’s no longer able to live the lie.

9) Dirty Dancing, 1987

“Nobody puts Baby in a corner.”

Where do I even start? This movie, along with Ghost, made me fall head over heels for Patrick Swayze. Seriously, even as a kid, my best friend and I would have “Crazy for Swayze” nights, and we’d watch this movie on repeat. If you haven’t seen Dirty Dancing, drop everything you’re doing and go watch it. Right now. Trust me.

During a summer vacation with her family at a camping resort, the young, rich, and beautiful Baby Houseman (Jennifer Grey) meets the rough and rugged Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze). Johnny is a dancer, and works for the resort. After a horrible introduction, the two become close. Johnny shows Baby new ways to move her body, and she shows him the true meaning of love.

10) Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, 2004

“I truly believe that happiness is possible... even when you're thirty-three and have a bottom the size of two bowling balls.”

This is a sequel to Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001), so I would strongly recommend watching it before watching this one. Sadly, the first movie is not available for streaming on Netflix, so we have to work with what we can get!

If you’ve ever been single, made horrible choices, or find yourself to be incredibly awkward at the worst possible moments, you’ll totally resonate with this movie. I love how real Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger) is. I don’t want to give away too much about this one since this is a sequel, but just know, it’s the perfect movie for every woman to watch at least once in their life.

Did I Miss Any?

Like I said earlier, I know I could have made this list WAY longer, but I had to cut myself off somewhere! Some other great ones that I didn’t include are Mystic Pizza, Forces of Nature, While You Were Sleeping, and Ever After. What are your favorite chick flicks on Netflix?
