Is a mother's love "overrated"?

Let me rephrase that. Are all other types of love underrated?

I constantly hear "you don't know true love until you have children", as well as "there is no love like a mother's love".

I don't doubt that a mother's love is inconceivably strong, I just feel that love between other people is somewhat disrespected by the previous quotes.

Why is it necessary to bash a good thing? I am a daddy and I can tell you there is nothing like the love and bond a daddy has with his little girl. I know a mothers love is at least as strong for the most part.

With that being said, its sad to say some people just don't want or have a connection with their children. You can see that through all the horrible parenting that happens everyday you go out in public. Secondly, 50 million abortions have happened in the U.S. since 1973. And we thought Hitler was bad killing 6 million Jews? They are both a holocaust. I don't understand the double standard here. All life is precious. The unborn to the oldest person alive and everyone in between.

I don't know. I'm not a mother. And my mother constantly tells me how much she hates motherhood and how it's the worst job on the planet and how this that and the other and one time she told me she wished I were adopted so she could send me back lmao.

She's all talk, but if my life were threatened or whatever, my mom would be there like the badass scary lady she is and she'd lay down her life for me, I just know it. And she'd do it without question.

Three years ago, I asked my mother if she could make me this T.V dinner. I walked back into my room and then five minute later, she comes in with it. I knew right then and there that she loved me. The fact that I was such a lazy ass that I could not even make a t.v dinner? and she made it for me? The things mother's do, I find it fascinating. A mother's love (speaking in general) is the greatest love and it is definitely NOT overrated.

Unconditional love is unconditional love, regardless of it is between two family members, two friends, or two lovers. HOWEVER it is quite rare to find the kind of unconditional love that the majority of mothers have for the children outside of the parent-child bond, imo.

in comparison to what kinds of other love? romantic? that passes. other family members (siblings, fathers, extended family) still don't come close to someone who gave birth to you and breastfed you.
and i say that as someone who doesn't have even a decent relationship with her mom-everyone else is replaceable. i don't think that if your mother is terrible that you owe her anything, nor that you should love her (i don't love mine), but a mother's love is incomparable.

yes other type of love's are underrated...but that is also because true love is almost nonexistent - people get divorces like crazy, some marry for money or security, others marry due to arranged marriage so of course it will be underrated...

I'd say it's more a case by case thing more so than it is dependent on the relation of the parties involved.

People get married too soon think they are in love and aren't they are just lusting/infatuated with each other. The highest divorce rates are among those 20 years and younger who get married and 20-24 age group. Cheating is also why people get divorced...

Well I'm not a soldier or a mother so I'll say it may be similar but something inside me screams, "There is no comparison". -One gives love because of "duty and obligation" and the other gives love because they have no choice but to love their offspring.. it comes naturally.

Do you mean kids who are just adopted out? Adopted kid =/= orphan. There is a huge difference between the two.

People who adopt children (orphan or not) do it because they either A) can't have kids of their own, or B) because they want to. The kid's biological parents may not have wanted them and so they don't love them, but the new set of parents probably hand-picked this kid to love and raise as their own.

Well, most people dont experience these things and are generally not wanting to accept it as a part of life. Most of the time its because it upsets the reality they're are used to or personal views on relationships with loved ones. Most people would choose a falso love than a not so lovey reality, so its necessary what your doing but just don't expect many people to accept it.

A loving mother and father is vital for a Childs growth so I don't think it's overrated I am who I am today becuase of my parents.
