Why do people repeat things they think are funny?

Like I watch TV with someone and a funny show is on and they repeat every other line. It's kind of annoying. Why do people do this? Do you do it?

It depends on how they're repeating it. The example you gave gives me an idea that this applies only when a funny moment occurs and they repeat a funny line that has been used numerous times already. Are you referring to all types of funny actions, or just lines.

Just lines. Like someone in the show says something funny and my friend will repeat it right after. They keep doing it throughout the show/movie.

Because it's funny. It made people laugh and smile, so by repeating it they hope it'll produce similar result and allow them to gain the characteristic "funny". But as you said, it becomes annoying after hearing it numerous times and they don't realize it.

I do it because it helps me to understand it sometimes and other times its just so funny to repeat it and hear it a second time. I don't know maybe its a mental thing don't worry about it.

Well that's what my friend does lol. It's way too much sometimes.

Question, do they have a cooldown on it, because if they say it nonstop, that's annoying. But also repeating a line, that's only funny to like, children, unless that line was truly, really funny, or you laughed at it without reason meaning that you would laugh at it again for no reason, or maybe it's like, "Hey, how's your day", "My mother was killed", it's weird, but like, the fact that it's so out of place is funny.
