Why do some people overreact with pranks?

Last year, my 2 best buddies and I were doing a ''sneezing on others'' prank.
Other than getting stared or told ''what the hell'', someone chased us for a bit.

Another one in HS, I knew this girl had a crush on me and the prank was to make her think I like her back and want to go on a date with her. It started getting too serious and after nearly 20 mins told her it was just a prank. Needless to say, she slapped the heck out of me and my friend behind it.

I've done a few other pranks and certain people tend to react. It's just a joke.

When I was young, we used to play phone pranks. Sometimes I still do, but it's harder with caller I. D. You have to mash *67 or something. My favorite was calling somebody day after day and asking for Melvin. After a while, even the nicest person would say, "Goddam it, there's No Melvin here. Don't call me anymore!!!" So then I'd wait a hour and have a friend call back and say, "This is Melvin. Have there been any messages for me?"

Sneezing on strangers deliberately is just ridiculous. Obviously, they're going to get mad.

The other ''prank'', it's serious business. This girl has a crush on you, and you're just making her look like a fool by doing this. Again, justified reaction.
