Why do a lot of models look androgynous?

Especially female high fashion models. Most have sharp features and noticeable jawlines. They have some masculine features and their bone structure is really noticeable.

And male models have soft features or look feminine. I don't get it

Models a lot of the time are skinny and look as if they have no animation in their face. They are hired because of this and the companies add makeup to make them as opaque as possible. The reason for this is so they can promote the clothes. Fashion industries want the clothes to stand out not the model. They try to make them as unnatractive as possible so they won't distract from the clothing. Sometimes they even try to make their makeup reflect the style of clothing. For example, if the new clothing line is inspired by futuristic elements, then the model's makeup will have sharp edges and geometric shapes. It all depends on the brand of course.

Fat = feminine. Femininity is all about fertility which means bodyfat stores, hips and boobs. When bodyfat gets too low women actually become infertile, they lose their period.

Why do designers want them androgenous? I don't think it's deliberate, they just turn out that way when they're too skiny.
