Trending & News I am an indian girl so I don't think it can be considered racist when I say this. It almost makes me ashamed to be indian, the way that some of the men behave. Girls can often be accosted on the streets by random indecent men, and it sucks but the large majority (for me anyway) just tend to be Indian and it's disgusting sometimes, because they seem totally oblivous to how they come off. I think its partly to do with the culture in India, and how it is a lot more patriarchal. In some parts of India there's even a term called "eve teasing" where Indian men call out to women on the streets - its the culture and its quite disrespectful. A womans goal is to get married to a worthy man. In my family, my father believes he is the head of the household purely because he is male. I believe it is something to do with their upbringing and beliefs, and while among fellow Indians it can be a bit more accepted, when they try to act like this to anyone else who hasn't been brought up with their culture and attitudes, its very disrespectful and often disgusting.
The problem with India is that we are the crossroads. On one hand, we want to follow the West and adopt their attitudes and lifestyle. At the same time, there is huge public opinion (even among youngsters) that we should go back to our roots, i. e., keep in touch with our traditions. This dilemma is driving people nuts.
Apart from that, please don't believe in the statistics. Moreover, India's huge population has got something to do with it I feel. But its not like women can't venture out of their homes at all. Its not really that bad. Also, sexual assault/rape is a delicate topic. Not everything gets registered or reported.
So, since I am living in India, let me assure you that the situation is not as alarming as your question makes it out to be.
From someone who had a family member love and work in India for 15 years, it is.
See for yourself, you must be a relatively wealthy Indian... Amongst the 6% of the population. Go to the shanty towns and tell me what you told me again.
No, I'm nowhere near rich, just middle class. I agree there is a lot of gender bias, but still its not very alarming at least in South India. I have heard things are bad in the North, but well, this is just my perspective.
Well, whatever you are, you're far better off than the grand majority of your Indian counterparts. Forgive me, but you seem surprisingly ignorant.
Well, I am woman and I live in India. I am aware of women's problems first-hand. Doesn't that qualify me to comment on this?
Remember, I live in South India, in a metro like Bangalore. That's why I said its my perspective.
My mums a woman too... She was treated horribly by the vast majority. I don't think you're quite getting my point.
What u r trying to say is that "some" of the Indian men are horrible. Yes, uneducated/uncultured men, which ever country they are, are similar.
But the things u mentioned in ur question - women are treated like dirt, forced into prostitution is common only in the uneducated sections of the population. Educated women don't face this. That's why every woman in India now-a-days is taught to educate herself and become independent. The feudalistic mindset is changing in a big way. Things have improved exponentially. That's why, a lot of MNCs are coming to India. If not, nobody would give us a second look.
The use of mobile phones and Internet has reached even the villages, people have a lot more access to the outside world. There are a lot more opportunities for women to seek help.
I think you don't have much exposure to Indian culture. Naturally the news will report BAD things.
I am an Indian girl and I know plenty of really nice Indian men who would never take advantage of a girl.
Every country has good and bad people. Not just India.
In my opinion it isn't good to make a judgement about an entire race based off what you hear in the news.
I might not, but my mum certainly does. She worked over in Mumbai for 15 years and came face to face with young women who fell victim of horrifying rapes and assaults.
And as far as the rest of your opinion is concerned, I said *some* not all.
The word "some" is in your question but not so much the description. So it didn't come off to me that you only meant certain Indian men.
I apologize if that wasn't what you were intending.
Note: Mumbai has a red light district. It's a city in India where prostitution is more common than others. So I would expect your mom to encounter those kind of women there.
Your mom Working in one area of India where prostitution is really common doesn't really show me that you are exposed to Indian culture.
Even in the US, certain parts of the country are more impoverished with higher crime rates. You can't say the whole country is one way based on one city, you know?
I don't know what is happening in their country but MOST Indian guys I talked to are perverts. I would say some are nice. My ex boss is nice I knew someone here who is an Indian but he is polite. I don't have much good experiences with them. But I will say every country also have their fair share of idiots and perverts not just India.
No clue. I want to blow that useless country up. Its scum ridden and ideals and morals are out the window.
Jesus Christ that's morbid!
Why? I'm Indian, I know what goes on in that country. I know what they think and how they work. Their culture and religion is a wicked mixture, holding them back from any further improvements. The social laws are created only through actions, man's pride follows corrupt police and continues to allow injustice to occur.
I don't give a hoot if your Indian. Some of the people you'd blow up are innocent.
Innocence and ignorance go hand in hand. Majority also rules and in a democracy (Currently the most stable and long lasting form of government) we can say it's for the greater good of this planet and nature itself. I am sorry that some people do not have a certain degree of understanding or appreciation for another's life that doesn't choose to live or die. We humans take it away.
truth is i never came across an indian guy and i've only met a few of them online... nothing special : O

That's just in select areas of India honestly. The reason why rape is so common in India is because of the culture. The police system is unbelievably corrupt and it costs too much to uphold. So not only do a lot of Indian men rape random women, they also rape their own female family members knowing they will get away with that sick twisted crap.
In that part of the world, women are treated worse than animals. Of course some of then, treats women as equals, with love and respect. But those who are bound by religion, and traditions should just be hanged.
They are in generally an ignorant country because they are very poor..
Well there is some truth in her 'ignorant' statement.
Poor is synonymous of corrupt when you're talking about countries. India, relatively speaking, is a poor and very corrupt country where women are treated with less respect that animals.
Yes ignorance go hand in hand with poverty.. Because generally when you are poor you are very desperate to get money by any means, also you dont have time to read and get education.. Im not generalizing.. Bu if you can't see poverty in India.. You probably are not living on this planet.. @fishlaya
A lot of people are blind to how affected poor people actually are...
indians are confused whether they want to keep up there traditions or adopt western culture and this confusion is fucking their mind
Not all of them. My friend is from India and he and his family are very kind
I didn't say all of them for gods sakes.
Most Indians I have met in real life and online have bad attitudes. I only met one indian dude who was cool
social equality is corrupted and not as present in some areas of india
I guess it is the culture there
Dats racist!
Not it isn't you idiot.
But I didn't generalise you muppet... I said *some*.
