The parents are only frightened, if you give them a reason to be. For example, don't go up to them when their young are right next to them (feeding or whatever), and don't go up to them when they're feeding on a fresh kill. They basically are territorial creatures, just like Cheetahs. They need their space. Other than that, I suppose you could try hugging one, I think there's a special way you have to do it though

actually if the lion and lioness are friendly to the keeper hugging or picking up the cubs would be relatively easy, just dont run away with it xD
