Back in school there was a guy who was always asking me to have coffee with him and i thought nothing of it. Some of our friends argued that we were dating -- but in that case my Mama would have killed me bc I wasn't allowed to date! He was just a nice guy sitting and having coffee with me.
When I went off to a new job I made friends with the secretary -- a sweet much older lady who had been showing me the ropes and telling me where to find things in town. I asked her to come have a tea with me after work. She called her daughter to say she'd be coming home late because she's having tea and sandwiches with the new girl. Well the daughter made a big deal about it even though the secretary and I agreed it's just two people having tea.
Moving forward a zillion years, a fellow has been grating on my last nerve by claiming that every guy I ever sit with anywhere one-on-one is a date... that anyone I walk with one-on-one is a date. **IS IT?**
My vote is no... one-on-one coffee in broad daylight or walking a girl safely to her train or bus or hellicopter does not constitute a date. It's just friendly gentlemanly behavior. For it to be a date the fellow should ask the girl on a date. Period.
