Why are some religious people so judgemental?

why are some religious people so judgemental? I don't know whats whith them. I met a few and the most recent ones were the people from my bf's previous church. Especially the pastor's wife. The first time i met her and my boyfriend introduce me to her, she looked shocke and was like "I'm going to talk to u about this" to him. I was like, is there something wrong with me dating him? Hmmm. Then she even took a pic of us, i didn't smile cuz i was having this bad mood when she said that. She even said i looked like my bf's ex girlfriend. Duh!? Is that the right thing to say to someone? I was deeply offended by what she said. When my bf finally talked to her he told me what she said about me. She said i look like someone that is too hard. I don't know what that means. She also told my bf to break up with me and wait for me to be a member of his church before i could be in a relationship with him. SHe even called me a non christian without knowing what my background is. I am a christian though. Maybe she said that cuz I am catholic. Well, I am a Catholic Christian. He decided to leave the church after that. My boyfriend went through a lot in that church. He said people started ignoring him when they found out he was not going to be a leader anymore because he was dating a non christian girl. it came to a point where they treated him as if he was invisible. Some understood the situation though and I am very thankful of them, i heard one guy telling him that he is only human, he fell in love and he never did the wrong choice and that it was God's will. He is so nice to understand but some people just don't understand. One girl from his church asked me face to face if I was a believer, i was about to answer when my boyfriend arrieved and then she told him that i should be a believer.. I was like, does she even know me? I don't know what's wrong in this world.

I understand what you mean, but still, there are judgmental people in evey walk of life, like the old saying goes, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. And every person with an opinion or a belief think theirs is right and will fight tooth and claw to prove to someone else that they are correct and simultaneously better than the people they disagree with. Religious people have pious senses of self entitlement they believe to be granted to them by God, and any nonbeliever to their religion is an idiot destined for hell and as such are lower than them. Atheists and agnostic people believe that religion is a scam and that people are stupid to believe in some magic man in the sky. Many times they consider themselves to be more intelligent for seeing the "truth," or their truth actually, and consider themselves to be better than religious people. Now granted, not every person is like this, but the people who are usually think this way. I've seen it on all sides, humans are, by nature, selfish, arrogant, cruel, ignorant, judgmental and narrow minded beings who are quick to judge any person different than themselves and cast them as an undesirable outsider for simply being different. Religion, beliefs, creed, nationality, race, gender, age, intelligence has no baring on judgement, if you are a human, you will judge and be judged, that's just the way things are.

Firstly I don't have a religion, but I do not put down those that do.
The problem is basically down to insecurity. That's the whole reason for inventing different religions. They are insecure about their own lives and any possible afterlife.
These people are controlled by their god or gods/godesses and in turn have to control others. Some of these so called Christians are bigots. They preach compassion and forgiveness, but unfortunately do not practice it themselves, as you have found. They ignore anyone who doesn't like to "play their game". They can even gossip and make up untruthful remarks just to hurt because you are not "one of us".
I have no time for these religious people, the deserve the contempt that they give others.

Note! Not all religious people are like this, some are really lovely and DO practice what they preach. They are the ones I always have time for.

A lot of people in general are judgmental. That's not a trait exclusive to religious people, it's a human trait. Religious people aren't perfect, just like non-religious people aren't perfect. I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with religious people though.

What a horrible church. Your church should guide you spiritually not try to control you physically. I would work on trying to find a new church that has more in common with Jesus than a cult.

Who doesn't pass at least some form of judgment? I know atheists and non religious people who also pass judgement. I don't think it's based off religion.. people just naturally judge

For the same reason that some non-religious people are so judgmental.
A lot of people think/know the difference between right and wrong and proceed to tell others.
And it's not only about being right or wrong. Like it says in any one of Josette Sona's free ebooks, too many men judge others by their looks (which can lead to prejudice, treating someone unfairly, etc. - not characteristics we'd want in a significant other).
I know we're attracted to someone who is attractive, but a person shouldn't be initially judged/dismissed by how they look. Looks aren't everything. A person could be considered unattractive by society's standards, but they might be a wonderful person, someone anyone would be lucky to have as a significant other.

Dont worry about such people they are brainwashed with the most sickening torture... I mean they can't think of anything other than how worthy you are to God... Its just non of their business to know how someone is involved witb God... Such oeople should get a life

It doesn't sound like she was dissing you (though she shouldn't have say it like that, in front of you. It could easily be taken the wrong way. She possibly had a problem with your boyfriend dating someone who looked like his ex.)

the same question could be asked about judgmental non-religious people. there is a segment of the worlds population that is very judgmental

Certain churches operate with in certain way. As a Catholic I am surprised you have not seen this with in your church.

I do see them. I just ignore them because I don't really know them. I was just disappointed because I used to look up to those religious people. I thought they were good but I was wrong
