Why are people so judgmental?

I think being judgmental is a habit, and it comes from inner pain that person is carrying somewhere. It also comes from perfectionism. The person judging is either unhappy with themselves, and/or unhappy with how their life is going. Any time someone is overly judgmental towards others, it reflects on how they secretly view themselves.
