Why do people judge others?

I think we all do or should do it in a way. If you see a crocodile charging at you maybe you should be a bit judgmental and run in the opposite direction.

The question I always struggled with is if I should do that when I see a homeless person on the street swinging a baseball bat and shouting out loud. Should I try to disarm and calm him or be judgmental and run the other way?

I don't know the right answer but my way has always been run up to him and try to disarm him even if I die along the way. And even if I succeed to disarm him, I don't know what to do. The police arrive and I don't know if the police have the right idea. Should I fight the police?

Isn't it the same way in some way? I think my way only is absent of superstition being of a scientific background. I don't assume that one person "like this" has betrayed me and the next person "like that" will. Whatever "like this" means (sex, race, hobbies, speech patterns, whatever). I think every new person is different although I acknowledge shared behavioral patterns if one conforms to ideologies and cultures (albeit always looking for exceptions).

Some people are more judgmental than others, but we are all a little judgmental at times.

That is true but some people oh boy lol. I try my best not to because I know how it feels to be judged unfairly all too well. It's hurtful and damaging to the self-esteem/self-worth of that person.

Agreed. There are always going to be assholes who refuse to even attempt to be decent.

I feel like it comes from their own insecurities and arrogance. Most of the time people do things or say things in an attempt to make themselves feel better and to distract themselves from their own issues.
