What happens if I cut my nail too short?

I was cutting my nails and I had one nail with nail polish on it. So I was lazy and didn't take it off. I cut it, but I cut it so short that the white part isn't visible anymore. Will it ever be normal again? Like will my nail grow back to it's normal size and then will the white part start growing? Or will it look like this forever? It kind of hurts too. :(

One time, in band camp, I wondered what would happen if I peeled my nail back with a pair of needle nose pliers. I was really drunk and decided to go for it. I figured if it hurt I'd stop. I grabbed the nail and yanked backwards and it peeled the entire nail off all the way back past the cuticle.

It came off surprisingly easily. It hurt like a son of a fish. It was very bloody and painful and hurt for days until it fully scabbed over. It took over a year before the nail grew all the way back. It's been 18 years and the nail isn't perfect still. Looks like air under the nail in spots as it is white instead of pink.

With that said, yours will grow back just fine. Just don't ever rip the nail off.

Your nail will grow back out in a couple of weeks. The only way you could actually damage your fingernail would be to somehow damage the upper cuticle area where the moon shape appears such as having a impact there. So no worries your nail will be long again before you know it.

From what I gathered you cut the pink part and there is no white part of your nail left. Well fear not it will most definitely grow back, it may take a little bit but it does eventually go back to normal. Trust me I have done this many times before.

If you wondering why the white part comes back it's because as the nail plate grows out past the nail bed its turns white, its that simple! Thats why people who grow out their nails have a big section thats white and if you look closely its starts just after where the nail bed ends.

Also for the pain, if you do happen to do it again, all you have to do is apply ice to it and to cover it with a band-aid.

You probably cut too close to your skin, may even have nicked it slightly. It will grow back in a few days, so please don't worry. In a weeks time you will never know it happened.

Bear in mind that finger tips are very sensitive. Much more than the sides. I believe that it is recommended that for blood glucose tests you use the side rather than the tip.

Hey, I agree with ThisAndThat!! I have often broken nails so short the bleed, but after a couple of weeks, they are long enough to need cutting. As the nail re-grows, it will drag the skin slightly restoring it back to what it was.
