+1 yThis Guy: vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/.../latest
Because he's like a mix of Samurai, sword carried on the back and he's also a gunfighter from the old west.
Now back on topic, depending upon the environment, distance, skills, luck, patience, how much ammo the Gunfighter has and depending upon if he also has MORE THAN a Single gun, and whether or not the Samurai can throw his swords or blades, or whether or not have a crossbow or bow and arrow, I'm sure samurais have ranged weapons as well. But the odds would still be greatly in the favor of "The Guy With The GUN", especially if the Samurai does not have anything he can really use to reach at the gunfighter.
All because, "the gun is the best defense."20 Reply

Unless the samurai is some kind of superhuman so he could dodge the bullets the "gun fighter" would win. Disarm them both and make chances fair and the "gunfighter" will be knocked out faster than you could count to 3 😂

@nfigure yeah it's pretty obvious who's gonna win then though πͺ In ninjutsu my Japanese friend taught me how to kill someone with 1 grip via pressure points lololol never used that though but a person who knows those techniques can be incredibly dangerous unarmed - and I am willing to bet my ass that the samurai learned those.

+1 yAccording to history books, some Samurai used matchlock weapons. Samurai were trained in various arts of war. So the samurai with a gun would probably win.

+1 yModern gunslingers can slip leather in seconds and hit the target and they aren't even as good as some of the legendary gunslingers of old. The Samurai would win if they were able to flank him and sneak up (Limiting the time to pull a gun) but if it was a duel, ten paces and such, gunslingers win every time.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI think the samurai gets shot, still manages to close the distance and slice gunfighter to pieces, dies of infection later.
Early guns were not particularly more effective than earlier weaponry, they just required far less training.
For instance, in early 1800s, muskets could be fired by most people once a minute. Elite troops might fire 4 times a minute. Their effective range was < 100 yards. That's where the old 'wait till you see the whites of their eyes' comes from - after you fire, the opponents can close the gap and engage in bayonet warfare before you reload, so you might as well fire your one round at point blank range. By contrast, longbowmen from centuries earlier could fire 10-12 times a minute and hit a man sized target 80% of the time at 300 yards. Wellington asked whether a few hundred longbowman could be used in the Napoleonic era, but there was simply none around. Learning to be a longbowman took years, where musket infantry could be deployed far, far faster.02 Reply- +1 y
Cowboys didn't use muskets from the early 1800s,
They used cartridge firing rifles and revolvers,
Also The Rifle Musket came about before the civil war (A rifle that loads like a musket) AND THEY WERE ACCURATE.
Opinion Owner+1 yRifles were accurate but still inferior to longbows in those days. Yes, I'm aware they mainly used far more accurate revolvers, I'm just not sure the average gunfighter would have been able to shoot your average samurai dead before getting cut to pieces. I do think he'd hit him, and the wound would fester and kill him.

+1 yWell, not exactly a Samurai and not exactly a Gunfighter but it's close enough for the government:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YyBtMxZgQs10 Reply Some samurai used muskets but would probably still be dead before he even got to point it against a skilled gunslinger.
Only case I could think of samurai prevailing in that case is because samurai are apparently a bit insane and ready to die at any moment (at least the more romanticized version of the samurai, not all were like this). So he might take a few rounds and still go kamikaze on the cowboy charging at him and then die after swinging his sword.10 Reply4.5K opinions shared on Other topic. Samurai, because they are faster, more dexterous and precise. Samurai had throwing knives like these, they could kill old west gunfighter before they would manage to draw a gun: https://www.edgeimport.com/images/97618480631.jpg
10 ReplyIt basically works out like this but with a lot more bias going to the cowboy... Whoops technology.

Not really as simple as yes or no to many variables.25 Reply- +1 y
Here is the thing, the Terrain wouldn't matter cause it would give a gunfighter an advantage either way.
A gunfighter would be familiar with the primal forests of the rockies, the harsh deserts of the southwest, and the plains.
- +1 y
The Gunfighter already knows how to deal with the harshest of terrains.
Samurai not so much - +1 y
@Waffles731 that's not true, Japan well ancient Japan had many mountains/Rockies and was heavily forested the reason it gives the samurai an advantage is because arrows are completely silent and the samurai were master archers to the point were they could shoot an arrow into a each mans eyes and between the eyes easily. And in Japan the forests are misty which gives camouflage to the samurai especially if he's on horseback and arrows had farther range then the 6 shooters used by gunslingers those were for close range.
- +1 y
Which is why most gunfighters carried a rifle as well, the sharps was very popular for a reason

+1 yconsidering that the use of guns sort of eliminated the effectiveness of the samurai i'd have to say the gun slinger. i'd like to choose the samurai but even a great samurai can only avoid so many bullets

+1 yEven am idiot who's never used a gun before but knows how it works would win against the most skilled fighter in the world if he has a gun. There is just no competition. The only thing that might hinder him would be an unsteady aim and fear to shoot.
11 Reply- +1 y
*an idiot
The samurai would be dead before he could react. I've seen videos of a man slicing bullets with a sword, but you have to be pretty special to be able to do that. Your average samurai wouldn't pull it off.
111 Reply- +1 y
Who said anything about a sword? The samurai were mostly bowmen.
- +1 y
@TheSpartan it still faster to point and shoot a gun than to draw and launch an arrow.
- +1 y
Is the gunslinger going to be able to hit a samurai traveling fast on horseback from fifty or sixty yards away? At that distance, a samurai will easily hit the gunslinger; he's been training to use a Yumi on horseback since he was 3 or 4-years-old. The gunslinger will have three arrows in his torso before he'd be able to get off a shot.
- +1 y
@TheSpartan where the hell did you get the horse from xD. If thats the case then I am giving my guy a trench. Boom, immune to arrows.
- +1 y
Where do you mean "where did I get the horse from"? It's common sense that samurai were primarily armored horse archers.
- +1 y
@TheSpartan doesn't matter, the gunfighter has a trench so he wins.
- +1 y
Why would he have a trench? Trench warfare wasn't popular in the 19th century America.
- +1 y
@TheSpartan I dont know the word for a couple of bags of flour stacked on top of each other. Arrow protection. If the samurai is in full armour and a horse then that means he was expecting the battle, so he got prepared. Why wouldn't the the gunfighter prepare in advance as well?
And anyway you keep forgetting that its an old west gunfighter, someone who has a lot of experience and someone whos been shooting guns since he could walk. - +1 y
Samurai trained with firearms also. What's your point? The main difference is that samurai trained with firearms as well as bows, spears, horses, and swords.
- +1 y
@TheSpartan I love how you take just one part of what I said and reply only to it lol

He'd be on horseback sixty-yards-away pumping arrows into the gunslinger from his Yumi bow before the guy ever knew what hit him. The Samurai are too well trained with the bow.18 Reply- +1 y
You know who else were Horseback Archers, The Plains Indians, and they were far better at it than Samurai and we all know how the plains indians faired
- +1 y
They also weren't professional warriors who were fully-armored and had been training since childhood.
- +1 y
Professional warriors, that mostly just went around making peasants pay taxes,
Professional warriors that caved to a single expedition of U. S forces by Commodore Perry.
Whereas the Plains Indians managed to put up a HUGE fight - +1 y
You ever heard of the Southwestern War of 1877? Samurai put up an insane fight against a professional, gunweidling army four times their size.
- +1 y
Dude, the Plains indians held out long after the Samurai were gone, you had wars in the early twentieth century against them
- +1 y
Hardly--just a few minor skirmishes.
- +1 y
not at all, the Apache wars only ended in 1924
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_Wars - +1 y
Yeah, and after Geronimo, it was only a few minor skirmishes. There weren't any actual pitched battles between Natives and the government after the 1870s.
The Samurai would throw his sword at the Gunfighter as he fires his gun. The sword will hit the bullet and it will ricochet back to the Gunfighter's head, killing him instantly.

10 Reply3.9K opinions shared on Other topic. If it works like a classic duel, at a distance of 10 steps from the center it was I think, the Samurai would need to be very fast to throw... so I think he'll have taken a bullet by than and lose :o

Issues finding things explaining a scenario with a cowboy against a samurai. Only thing I could find was an elite gun fighter vs Elite Knife fighter. What they have explains is that if the gunner doesn't move then he's in big trouble but if he rolls around and moves more often he will have the upper hand.
