Who would win, A pirate or a Samurai?

I say pirate do to having guns and being a more ruthless fighter, also PIRATES ARE WAY COOLER THAN SAMURAI

The samurai would, pirates were undisciplined, samurai were relentlessly trained and disciplined, they were better swordsmen, better marksman, and better warriors.

Also if you bring up the argument that pirates have guns, well so did the samurai actually once firearms were introduced into Japan the samurai started using them along side their own traditional weaponry, these firearms and projectile weapons included revolvers, bolt action rifles, Gatling guns and cannons they used these along side their Katana which in close quarters where superior blades, bows and arrows which they could fire faster then firearms and were able to shoot on horseback they were so accurate with them that they could shoot a man between the eyes. They also used Naginata sword/spears which could be used like a sword or spear, and they also used clubs which were capable of shattering shields.

The problem with that argument is this fight is most DEFINITELY ON A SHIP.
and since Japan was completely isolated by the time of the golden age of humanity so their tech was limited to matchlock muskets that wouldn't fare well on a ship.
The pirate would just put a twelve inch hole into a charging samurai and be done

Yeah except they only got one shot and one shot from a musket won't stop a samurai in armor, hell muskets barely even killed unarmored targets most of the time. besides a samurai if faced with a ranged target would simply use a bow and arrow, something they were deadly efficient at, they were so accurate with em they could shoot someone between the eyes or even put an arrow into each eyeball.

Also Samurai armor wouldn't do jack, it was made to stop arrows and in ship to ship combat the bow would not be worth anything.
its close quarters and the flintlock pistol will leave giant bloody holes in the armor

A musket wouldn't be very handy either the sword would be the ideal weapon for both parties, also no most pirates historically carried 1-2 only some of them carried a lot of them like that.

Also who's to say the battle would take place a on ship hmm?

I'll use a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean as my argumet.
So there they are inside the blacksmiths shop. Jack Sparrow fighting will turner.

Will is stronger than Jack though, so Jack decides to do something. He throws sand on Will's face, and as Will removes it, Jack draws his gun and aims at him.
Low knowing that he has lost the fight, Will says to Jack "you cheated."
Jack replies "Pirate".

Pirates were not a uniform bunch. Samurais were. Mostly. A samurai had harsh mental and physical training as well as durable and efficient equipment. A pirate was just a bandit at sea. Not all of them were ruthless fighters. Some of them were your average blokes with swords in hands and some experience at sailing, but that's about it.

Samurai hands down. Expert with every weapon of choice, all of which is kept on hand. Some late samurai even used guns. Best case scenario a pirate could hope to hit the samurai when he's not looking and shoot him in the back. But direct combat would lead to the pirates demise... Unless that pirate is jack sparrow. That lucky bastard is wiley.

The Flintlock pistol was DESIGNED for close quarters and it would be accurate up to ten feet away. Samurai armor was merely designed to deflect arrows and wouldn't do jack against a sword.
The flintlock pistol of the pirate would blow a gaping hole into you as the bullet it twelve inches in diameter

The katana was pretty damn effective! I mean I would've thought it would've broken off from the handle a lot but apparently not. It's got some range on it, it's easier to use than the European straight swords, and is longer than a cutlass!

They were forged from iron so shitty that european smiths would be ashamed to use them in swords.
also longer does not mean better, the katana had to be wielded like a bastard sword so while not on horseback it was usually two handed while the cutlass was onehanded and had more manueverability

A bow is good when fired in volleys and from longer range, the fighting in this would DEFINITELY be close quarters on a ship.
