Definitely the Mongol Empire, because unlike the British, Mongols are quite a small nation, but they managed to control such a large empire with outnumbered army.
My second choice would be Russian empire because they were spreading their borders in a very harsh climate conditions, with not enough food (you can't' grow food on a permafrost soil).
The British empire was definitely among the greatest, especially in cultural influence (English language is the most widespread language in the world).
Hey, where the hell is the Dutch empire? And the Japanese empire, or Korean empire? What about Inca empire and Aztec empire? I can't see German empire either...
Just kidding :P

Mongols need to make a comeback:
It's like this, some historiographers estimate that if only Genghis Khan had lived to be 100 years old, his empire would look like this: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/.../...c468dcd2c2.gif
For a small country of origin the British empire covered a huge area of the world.

While the Mongol Empire covered an incredible area back in its day, the incredible bravery and technology involved in having an Empire that stretched across different continents separated by entire oceans in the 15th and 16th Century is just unimaginable to me.
That's why I'd pick either the Spanish or Portuguese Empires as the most impressive ones. ;)Russian, because unless the British they didn't have the ideal conditions of a save and fertile island nation, but also the disadvantage of steppe nomads constantly raiding and enslaving the population, while they had powerful concurrents like the polish-lithuanian commonwealth and the ottoman empire at their border.
PS: The Ottoman Empire needs to be included.Definitely the Mongol, they were one of the first groups to have used Gunpowder as a weapon. They were nearly unstoppable, even when they were outnumbered they still managed to defeat their enemies. They influenced various cultures throughout Asia and Europe.
The french Empire of 1805 leads by our mighty Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, we used to rule all Europe back then and all the countries were frightenned by our glorious great army.
Sadly this is no more :'(The British - expanding that far and wide/disperesed is far more impressive than conquering half a continent and collapsing soon after.
Can't decide between the British and Russian Empire, but it seems to me like the Russian Empire got a lot of territory with oil, gas and gold reserves...
It was a tough call for me between the British and Mongol Empires. What they managed to do --- considering their initial resources --- was just insane.
if you had put Macadonia ( Alexander the great) I would have picked them, them and the Mongols where the top two largest in history with Roma and Persia in close second.
I think most westerners know about British so most will vote that. The Qing empire was fascinating though. They have a really interesting history.
Hahahaha! Part deuce. I think you mean part deux.
Deuce is either 40 all in tennis or a turd. Classic

The British because they controled countries like India more or less by divide and conquer and sheer bluff.
