I just wanted to enjoy with my friend, i created a fake instagram acc and wroted her messages, now she says that if can police find IP adress of deleted acc, she will delate the police about it, i am afraid for it, i didn't know that it would be this way, and i cannot say her that i did it, i deleted that acc and i want to know police can find my ip adress? sorry for my English
Can police find deleted instagram ip adress?
This is a question that has been asked many times, with no clear answer. However, we can try to piece together an answer based on the available information.
When you delete an Instagram account, the account and all its data are removed from the Instagram servers. This includes any photos, videos, messages, etc. that were associated with the account. However, some data may still be stored on the servers even after the account is deleted.
One such piece of data is the IP address that was used to create the account. This information is stored in the account logs and is not deleted when the account is deleted. Therefore, it is possible for police to find the IP address of a deleted Instagram account.
However, there are a few caveats. First, the IP address would only be useful to police if they were investigating a crime that was committed using the Instagram account.
Second, even if the police did have a use for the IP address, they would likely only be able to obtain it through a court order.
So, while it is technically possible for police to find the IP address of a deleted Instagram account, it is not something that would be easy or likely to happen.10 Reply

+1 yAs others have said, in order to track you down the police will have to ask Instagram and your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to give them records of your activity.
However, neither of these companies are likely to give the police your information unless they deem the situation serious. I'm talking serial killer serious, not screwing around online serious.
The police at that point would have to get a warrant from a judge. No judge is going to issue a warrant for that.019 Reply
Asker+1 ybut if i turn off wifi on device, still my ip adress avilable? can they find it this way?
- +1 y
It's not about what your IP address is now - it's about what it was when you used Instagram. Your ISP and probably Instagram will have a record of that.
Asker+1 yso you say that they can not find about me any information?
- +1 y
They can if both your ISP and Instagram provide the police with their records. What I'm saying is that they won't turn over their records. I don't think this is important enough of an issue to do so.
I've been a professional system administrator of web servers. If a police officer came to me and said "we're trying to catch a serial killer - can you help us?" I'd help out no problem. If he said "my daughter got some irritating messages from Instagram - can you help me?" - I'd tell him to get lost.
Asker+1 yhe wouldn say second way

Unless all investigative methods allowable have been exhausted. Then in the US they tap the Organized CrimeAct of the respective State and can tap your phone and data lines. But that has nothing to do with what has already happened or been deleted. Its the law here that delete means delete. No saving it for a rainy day. Hence why metadata started being collected from GoogleYahooBing etc.

If someone make an account which impersonated a teacher in their school, and then made hateful-ish memes about the teachers, would Instagram be likely to hand over their information?

+1 yhaving a fake instagram account isn´t exactly against the law xD so i don´t know why the police would even go after you xD
but yeah if you made a instagram account, the police will be able to find out. though you didn´t break the law, they do not have a legitimate reason to look for you.30 Reply
+1 yYes police have ways of finding out someone IP address just like they have ways of finding out deleted information on your computer including websites you have searched even after you have cleared your browsing history

Asker+1 yi meand i deactived that account, it is not about browsing history :(

@Banana girl If you're sloppy and fail to delete all info they can traxk you with ie. Cookies, broqser history, search engine history, history, bookmarks etc yeah theyll catch you if they have access to your harddrive. But if your committing crimes using your computer and you leave a trail of course they can pick up on it. Thats why most people delete and secure their accounts and browsers to not give location or record data or to purge immediately those details. Its touchy stuff but very simple to perform if you're an intermediate user. Just the way it is.
Asker+1 yFBI can, but it is not an issue about FBI.

If the police wanted too they can contact instagram and find out who owned the account by the email or mobile number you used to open the account but I doubt they will Im sure the police have better things to do
Asker+1 yi didn't use any number, just wrote random email

+1 yThe short answer is yes, if the issue is serious enough. For example if you make death threat to a person online, and it appears real. That person can contact the police, the police would get a warrant from court. They can use the warrant to compel Instagram to turn over all information about your fake account.
Just because you deleted the account, doesn't mean Instagram deletes it from their server. They most likely keep their data for years, if not longer. So they would turn over that account information to the police, which would include all the IP addresses associated with the account.
Now, the second part, just because the police is investigating you, doesn't mean you are in trouble. If you are just sending messages online without actually taking action to harm your friend. The police will most likely just give you a warning, even if they talk to you.

+1 yCan they? Yes.
Will they? No.
If you just said petty stuff, only local police departments will get involved, which don't usually get that stuff. You'd need something on the level on terroristic threats or cp to get the federal government involved, which could easily get it.20 Reply6.3K opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic. Anonymous(36-45)+1 yYes they can. And don't sound like you know how to use Tor or VPN, so yes they can find you.
But will the police try and arrest you? Most likely not. As long as you didn't threaten anyone. And even then the police are not going to waste their on someone like you. You don't sound like the sharpest tool in the shed. So you should just doing whatever you were doing and just forget about it.
Just stop bothering your friend and just go back to your normal life.
00 ReplyThe amount of resources the police would have to commit just to do that would make it a gross waste of their time for such a harmless case.
Just don't be an asshole online and you can never go wrong.212 Reply- +1 y
Actually most police offices have an entire task force dedicated to tracking people and as for the whole wast of resources look up how much it took to execute Ted Bundy and also look up how much it cost to imprison someone for a year it's ridiculous. Over a million dollars to execute one man and that is the average not just a unique price for executions

She clearly says she wanted to prank her friend. She created a fake ig account and wrote her messages.
What she wrote we do not know. But I think it's safe to deduce that because she is asking for opinions here, instead of seeking professional legal advice, that she has done nothing illegal.
Unless she has no understanding of right and wrong - +1 y
You are correct. I am wrong to assume. But until there is evidence to the contrary I will not say someone is guilty of a crime. That's the presumption of innocence. And she is entitled to not say how her actions may have lead to someone suffering a loss as it is her right to protect herself from self-incrimination.

Meta/Facebook: Here you go, the IP Address. Do you want the physical location too? Also know her English is not the best, so speak with easier words to her.

And nobody is going to do that over some internet harassment.

Asker+1 yBut can hacker find any information?
- +1 y
If a hacker actually find these informations, it would be IG fault for the lack of security. Therefore, you could sue Instagram no problemo.
Nevertheless, I'm convinced that an hacker doesn't give a single fuck about some teenagers bullying (even tho an hacker could technically, maybe, eventually be able to get the informations).
1.7K opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic. Yes. But it's unlikely they will incur that cost and time unless it's a major crime that has taken place.
10 ReplyYour ip changes depending on the radio mast/wifi that you're connected to, it wouldn't matter if the police would track it since they can't tie it to you.
