Well there have been some works in the social sciences that provide support for the idea using the scientific method on social/cultural topics. But I'm guessing you're one of the folks who think the hard sciences are the only valid science, even though they use the same methods.
There are two biological genders, which are usually referred to as sexes - male and female. And then there are god knows how many psychological genders, to which the word gender usually refers to.

Probably not, and considering that like 98% of the population will identify as either male or female it doesn't really make sense that we would need that many classifications.
