The Shar Pei's coat is naturally similar to that of a bear's as well as their extra skin. The Shar Pei's is usually concentrated more on the ankles of the hind legs, but it is consistent throughout the rest of the body (just not as noticiably) like a bear as well. So when they are groomed like a bear, they can look like little tiny bear dog cubs! I say it's adorable. I personally think it would be even better with a docked tail, then they would look even more like a bear!
The bear coat (long and soft) isn't about how they're groomed. The breed has many different coat textures and lengths. Bear coated shar peis have longer fur while most shar peis have "brush" or "hoarse" coats (shorter and bristly).

Yeah, that's why I was saying it's even more adorable when you groom them like a bear as well! Like when we groomed our samoyed to look like a white lion. Sorry if I was unclear about that. I was trying to say I think it'd be really cute if you groomed them to look like little bear dog cubs to fit the name even more 😊
Oh, now I get what you meant lol.
I'm so jelly of you and your samoyed! What are they like? Personality wise?
They are beautiful dogs! Very majestic and loyal. They are super cute and athletic when they are young. When they are old, they are sweet and gentle. With so much fur you can groom them all sorts of ways! Unfortunately, with all of their fluffy fur, they also shed little white clouds all over our house 😅 Also, they can be prone to have hip problems as they age and will often gnaw on their forelegs which turns their white fur a brownish yellow in those areas. We've had two Sammys. Our first one was Snowprints, but I don't remember him very well. He died Christmas Eve when I was very young. Then our second Samoyed we named Lancelot. He's the one I grew up with. Sadly, he passed away years ago. However, he lived to be 15 and usually dogs of his breed/size only live to about 8 or 9 (I think Snowprints died at 6). So we were very thankful for the time that we had with him.
Oh, and they are extremely intelligent, or at least ours was. And both Lance and Snowprints got along great with cats. Sorry I forgot to mention that.
They sound perfect to be honest. I know they come in cream and tan but I wish they came in slightly darker colors too. Their coats must be impossible to keep pure white.. At least my white tees are lol. I've been thinking about getting another dog someday (more like in a couple yrs) and I'm already obsessed with finding the right breed aha.
Yeah, that would be neat if they had darker colors too! It's actually not that difficult to keep their coat pure white. Their fur grows out so quickly that it stays white all on its own. I hope that helps, good luck on your hunt for the perfect dog!
Oh so that works out too. Thanks for that little lesson and I hop you find another cuddly companion someday. It sounds like your really good with your pets.

No problem! Thank you, I hope to get a pug sometime soon. I love big dogs, but a pug will be easier since I am moving into an apartment soon.
You're welcome :). I actually read that Samoyeds could do fine in apartments with regular exercise but you would probably know best lol.
I think they would do fine as well! I would consider it, but unfortunately my apartment complex has a 35lb weight limit :/
Yeah, no. A small pooch it is then lol.
oH. shar pei.
Not sharpie
I was dead ass imaging a fur coated sharpie marker
😂😂 . That'd be one boujee marker.
Girl, we'd be wayy too fierce😂
Oh, how cute! But why the sweater? The fur looks too nice and soft to cover it up.
Fashion, I guess. The sweater looks soft, though.

He is a good boy and deserves to be loved
At least 1 of them is a she. Her instagram is @bearcoat_tonkey
Cutest face it's looks like a cartoon lol
I know lol. It's like a living teddy bear.
They're ok, their face looks too big in my opinion
Yeah, they were originally bred for fighting and guarding. The excessive flaps of skin protected their faces and necks by making it more difficult for other dogs to get a grip and padding their skull, throat, etc.
Interesting, i thought it was supposed to be a cuteness factor like a teddy bear
Oh, no. In China they were thought to be symbolic of protection and the folds were their own form of protection. They usually have blackish, blue pigmented tongues. They believed that their black tongues warded off evil spirits.
Most shar pei have shorter coats so their folds are more visible. Without the bear coat they look far less cuddly.

Those look cuter
Really? lol. They seem tougher to me without the fluff. Which can be cute in it's own way.
Ehhh to me not seeing the eyes is a little unsettling
Unless the eyes are closed, they're clearly visible in both coat types. Can't you see the photos?
It's hard to tell
I mistakened one for a pillow. Sorry!😅
