They are failing because one, they focus on their ideological agenda instead of focusing on stories and characters. Two, its because those white males (which make up the vast majority of those who buy comics) are sick and tired of being accused of being the root cause of all the worlds problems and being told how evil they are. White guilt has been pushed to the point where many whites are no longer being affected by it (quite frankly they never should have been affected by it).

It's because they flat out replaced most of the original characters with their SJW counterparts.
Steve Rogers was depowered and replaced with Sam Wilson
Thor was made unworthy and replaced with Jane
