I got a new job and now I’m being discriminated against and sexually harassed. Warning: this may offend some. I guess I need to vent and get opinions?

I got a new government job with good benefits, a pension and a huge increase in pay. I am the only female. I work at a disease filled plant with heavy machinery. My thoughts are that everyone’s equally capable of the duties, man or woman. I work with many races of men including a lot of Indians from different parts of India. I will be straight forward immediately. I do not discriminate against any race or sex, and I believe everyone is equal. When I first started, four Indian men asked me many questions about my personal life and I assumed they were being friendly. I told them I had a family, a daughter who I had young and a boyfriend. The fact that I wasn’t married today and had a daughter young out of wedlock didn’t sit right with them. Also, the fact that I’m a female at a “man’s job” doesn’t sit right with them. One Indian refused to train me and told me that “this is a man’s job and brought up my menstral cycle being a problem.” I was told that “if I had my child young in India, I would’ve had to kill her because she was a mistake, especially if I wasn’t married arranged by my parents.” Another Indian thinks I’m an easy American and touched my butt, breasts and tried to lift my shirt up. I reported it to the head of HR and they’re in the process of making a decision going forward. Currently him and I are no longer allowed to work together. I am constantly being belittled for not knowing the job with very minimal training, discriminated against for being a female, and reminded that I had a child at a young age only by these four Indians. To make matters worse, one of them let word out about the sexual harassment and now the entire plant knows. One of the Indians is calling me a liar and spreading rumors about me wanting to “sue the company because I didn’t come from money.” His words. I am not suing anyone and I only want justice and to be treated fair and respectively. All of these things took place in the span of only two months. I’ve reached my breaking point

Just wanted to update everyone. The man who touched is getting a warning against him. As far as I know warnings expire off your record, meaning he could move up to management eventually (he’s trying). My goal was to stop anything happening to another female in the future and a warning doesn’t stop that. I think it would be best to start looking for another job, and take as much money from this company as you can before you leave. It's just usually best to leave your personal life out of work, even if you feel like you have nothing to hide, the issue is that "work" for some people is their life blood and they will be stuck at the job for a long long long time. In turn, they bring their miseries and sorrows to the job place, in this case, they brought their racism and sexism, which is mostly likely normal in their country. (Not that understanding any of their behaviour will make it ok, but I guess it's always useful to know your enemy). It doesn't have to be Indian men, it could have been manipulative women. The workplace can be a nasty environment.

If the company does not do anything to compensate you or make things better, than you need to do everything in your power to report this company to the appropriate powers. Because if you leave, this will just happen again to another woman.

I’m not in India. I’m in the US. And the physical work is minimum. 5-6 times a year I might need to put some strength in to open a valve. Everything we do is mechanically operated using computers and machines mostly indoors. It takes brains to operate, not strength. Yes it’s a dirty job and stinks but I don’t physically touch the gross stuff, machines do. I operate those machines. If my supervisor didn’t think I was capable of doing the job he wouldn’t have hired me. He also wouldn’t have hired other females in the past. Crimes always go proportional to population. In any society, you can assume one in 1000 will be crooks and criminals. If your whole nation is just 1 million people, you need to deal with only 1000 such crooks. If you have 1000 million people, you have a million potential criminals to deal with. I’m the only female. There are other women in other departments and positions but in other locations miles away. I’m on probation for another 4 months. It is in America but I won’t say the city’s name because I’m not sure if I can get in trouble for talking about it on here. I mentioned the word company to spare the name of the city I work for. Mabey I should’ve used another word. It is a government job. I didn’t think it happened here either

I have spoke with the supervisor who sent my statement over to HR who is above my supervisor. It is out of his hands now. They need to be biased and can’t take sides. I work with sewage water

There is a nice white man training me and that’s good enough training for me according to the higher up’s. The problem is he doesn’t work with me every day.. The days he doesn’t work I do not get trained

There are training manuals written by engineers. Now I’m starting to understand them once I put the parts with the names and functions. The training is getting alittle easier each day but I’m doing a lot of it on my own
