Spanking for teenagers: Boys vs Girls?

I am curious what is your opinion on this.
In my house we were all spanked, by a mum, but quite differently based on gender. Brother had been spanked more and harder in the younger age, but his spankings stopped when he was 12. My sister and I had been spanked until 16. The spankings were rare as they were the last resort punishment.

When my brother did something really wrong at eg. 15, he had been grounded for a week without a phone. When I did the same thing, my mum spanked me with a leather belt.

I do not feel abused since grounding would be a much worse punishment for me... but I am curious why my mum thinks that spankings don't work for older boys but do for older girls.

Teenagers are too old to be spanked.

Only teenage girls should be spanked. Boys should never be.

Only teenage boys should be spanked. Girls should never be.

Both should be spanked equally.

We never get spanked anymore. It’s only used as a threat. Like, “I will whoop your ass in front of everyone if you try that shit again” And since me and my brothers were all spanked as children, we don’t do it again. Spanking never hurt, the pain never lasted too long. I think it was the yelling. Getting called “Idiot, Stupid, Dumb, Retard, Bitch, Fucker, Screw Up” that hurt more.. emotionally. But heck, I think getting spanked was good discipline. We were taught to not do certain things otherwise we’d get in trouble. Me and my brothers were equally spanked. The same way. Either with a custom-made leather belt (It was really big and wide), a spatula, or with a stick from outside. But yeah, we don’t get spanked as teens anymore

brother 9-12, me 12-16

How you were punished as older? Or threats just worked and you were angles?

I think it’s really inappropriate to spank period but to Spank girls and not boys that’s incredibly creepy. I think that’s psychologically setting girls up to accept violence as adult women.

indeoendent of your preference , The fact your mother wanted to spank you instead of grounding you as she did the brothers.. I don't know it’s very strange to me I think it’s unhealthy Like she was doing it for her own pleasure... out of envy or something. For a fatherto do it to young women would be so inappropriate for many reasons.

Teenagers are too old to be spanked, there should be different forms of discipline when you are older, so you can understand and think about whatever you did. Spanking such old kids is unreasonable and I can't imagine being effective.

In my case spanking were very rare, maybe one per two, three months and done only if I break the rules, despite of being warned earlier. For 9 of 10 warnings worked. For 1 of 10, a sore bottom have to help me obey the rules.

TBH I do not believe that teenage boy is much stronger than teenage girl. Our spankings were administered with a thick leather belt, It have to hurt even a boy. She could just give him a longer spanking...

It would hurt no matter how tough skin is... corporal punishment is used in schools with college age boys. And people in slavery were whipped bc it causes intense physiological and psychological pain

Some boys are weak some are strong but whipping hurts everyone... if they wanted it to hurt it would.

Anyhow, Anyone is strong with a belt. A mom is not aiming to strip skin off I hope. And I dk why you think women are too weak to cause damage.

Furthermore it still makes no sense to spanking once other methods of discipline are involved. Discipline is supposed to be for betterment of the child not convenience for the parent. it’s just treating someone like a feral animal humiliating and isn’t a path to self reflection. Just impulse...

To me personally, I don't think spanking would stop me doing something. Im fine with pain, and have no problem taking it. Maybe your parents saw something like that, and switched to grounding because it made him behave better

Well, spanking is a pretty easy:
1. Get a belt
2. Use it
3. 5 minutes later: done.

Grounding, if both parent works (and they are much later than we back in the home), is based on trust. My brother could easily go out for a hour or 2 every day. But he never did.

no. i learned my lessons on what is and isn't accepted. thats what spanking does. i have never been grounded.
