My best friend got beat up protecting me how can I make him feel better?

Yesterday Me and my best guy friend were walking home from university yesterday when 2 guy tried to rob us! It was so scary, all i remember is crying and then my friend standing between us! All of a sudden the two guys started attacking him!! Like punches and kicks even whilst he was on the ground! He put up a fight, but he got it bad.. im thankful he distracted them enough for them to run away, i just feel bad for him because he looked really bad all bruised cut amd bloody! He could barely hold himself up! he's been really quiet since, not like bad quiet but it feels more like he's nervous than scared! What can i do? He still looks all beat up! And i feel like i should be helping him even though he wouldn't expect me to! What do i do? he's the sweetest guy i know and my hero! I want to wrap him up cuddle and hold him, but i doubt he would want that! What would you do?
